I worked with Bill and have personally heard him explain this before in depth. This spin seems simplified. I believe he’s saying humans will survive climate change in large numbers. Worldwide, those with resources will be advantaged. I understood pretty dire predictions for poor and disaffected.

When I was a Microsoft VP, it was all about moving from a product to a service model to establish recurring revenue from every user(consumer). This was made the default model over time. It then morphed into recurring revenue and/or recurring data mining, which turns you into the product or service.

When I first saw your like on my post, I thought “great! We might finally find an opportunity to help each other”, but it disappeared. Was the first like just an error? Can you provide any insight as to why we have hit a brick wall each time we’ve tried to help or collab?

I can attest from experience that you need no VCs to make a worldwide protocol that people need. VCs do their best to not use protocols created outside their club, no matter how much better or less extractive those protocols are. They will pound their heads against a wall to succeed at extraction.

Irony is that the combination of bank deregulation, predatory lending, and bank bailouts vs. the arguably safer homeowner bailouts, created a windfall for banks & perfect storm for the most vulnerable mortgage holders. Open source is also infinitely better than extractive services. It allows people to learn and improve the state of systems openly and far more beneficially than just turning away from it while extractive services improve. It’s not for all hyped uses, but today’s AI does have real applications.

Sailing is a process.

The thing that most don't yet realize is that there is no network in widespread use suitable for organizing and up to the task required for sustained organization. Even BlueSky, as is, will fall short and be useful for oppression and as a surveillance tool at scale.

Not at all. I understand how those systems work as well as alternatives that would serve people much better. I'm not against using modern technology. The tech being rolled out is not as modern or safe for people as many believe.

My perspective is that they should not stop at all, but they definitely should make sure to understand how AI and machine learning works under the hood as a priority and be able to build those systems. Generally, they should develop modern CS skills, not stop where vibe coders start.

Just because that is the case doesn't change my perspective on what I said at all. A lot of people have made a lot of mistakes with digital technology for years.
