They’re great for extracting that extra bit of information from the marks, er.. “consumers” who use the LLMs as a service, that can be used by smarter systems now or later to extract the $ they continue to clutch.

Lots of aid from US enemies, democratic enablers not beholden to the people, and smart, evil oligarchs who amassed fortunes while biding their time and know how to use the latest propaganda technology and techniques. The actions we see are not borne just from the mouths or hands that implement.

I had high hopes. He said “yes we can”, then reneged on closing Guantanamo, folded on single payer, signed law so drones could target US citizens in US, bailed out banks vs. people (homeless crisis), set “red lines” with no consequences, & looked tough as Putin invaded Crimea.

By framing it as if either party has good faith and referencing a lesser parallel, the article severely understates what’s happening.

It’s a lot easier when your people control and tailor the algorithms for your benefit as well.

I started a social networking company, later purchased by Microsoft, back in 2003. It was a small company and everyone took part at some point or other in moderation. I saw things I wish I never had.

It is, in fact possible, to have real censorship resistance with all of the above.

Big data AI systems, such as Palantir’s, make it quite easy, verging on trivial for a great deal of understanding. Likely, that’s where most of the data exfiltrated from agencies ends up. I’ve worked on systems that did better when data was not even cleaned and could usually recognize likely dups.

Always “potentially”, “may have”, “possibly”, which makes most people think there’s some process that will follow to determine. When that doesn’t result in “definitely”, “did”, or “is clearly”, any widespread concern is nullified. This is a technique, not actual reporting.

It’s fine because it’s not like software runs the world or anything.

Fundamentally moral issues as well as those that could be solved w/good-faith conversation are both rage-stoked to irreparably divide. Most don’t understand this is purposeful & identified/cultivated by AI-driven propaganda to prevent coordinated resistance to morally bankrupt agendas in action.

I was reacting to the idea that its use in propaganda networks and hybrid warfare hasn’t already had world changing consequences. That isn’t limited to China, of course.

Simple segmentation was behind, years ago, and we were working on much better AI-based targeting/content optimization, using anything we could glean.
Were you pointing out the framing as nefarious vs. normal use? I believe people shouldn’t underestimate the risk of today’s AI uses in hybrid warfare.

Information warfare has been ramping up for years and without AI would be much less effective. I left and now work on counter technology, in part because I was very concerned about the capabilities of these systems vs. what people understood. I’m losing signal. More when it’s back.

That’s flat out ridiculous. Examples of success are not announced, as that enables better immunity/defense. As former chief architect for Microsoft’s ad platform and developer of AI systems, I can assure you that AI & ML have been used successfully for propaganda and in advertising for years.

Wise. The people need a truly decentralized platform, not another corporate-run network without privacy.
