this is basically the 2024 election in a nutshell, and the fact that so many people On Here don't understand that this is ultimately a concise summary of the forces that drove people to vote the way they did is actually REALLY fucking grim. we are being presented a choice, and we're choosing wrong.

I remember being nervous every time I was sitting at an intersection and a big truck pulled up behind me, and that basically didn't stop until I was in my late 20s.

and I don't mean where a young gay man could simply find a job, I mean *where could I go apply and be physically safe* because there were still lots of workplaces that were super dangerous like that. it's virtually unimaginable nowadays!

when I first arrived at college and eventually went looking for my first part time job, I had to ask the Elder Gays I knew where it was safe to apply for work.

I've said this a lot, but my general experience is that under-30 LGBTs just straight up don't believe me when I tell them what it was like in the Before Times.
