September is National Preparedness Month, so now’s a good time to make sure you have a plan to stay safe in the next fire, flood, or hurricane. Here are a few tips from NC Governor Josh Stein, with advice we’ve heard from our community added in. What’s your advice for preparing for extreme weather?

We’ll be the first to say the federal government doesn’t always get it right when it comes to helping out after weather disasters. But surely our government can do better than this? Nearly a year after Hurricane Helene, survivors have less than 10% of the funding they need to recover.

The Eaton Fire Destroyed Their School. They Created a New Wonderland Onstage. At first it seemed unthinkable that the school’s spring musical, “Alice in Wonderland,” would happen. But school leaders quickly decided that it should go on.

Did you catch the news about that massive #haboob in AZ last week? Yeah, we had the same reaction: what even is a haboob? Turns out, a haboob is the term for an intense dust storm that can lead to zero visibility. If you’re ever caught driving in one, remember: pull over and turn off your lights.
