In countries with single-payer healthcare, arguably the government owns a large portion of medical data. (I don’t hear a lot of debate about individual medical data ownership in such countries.)

Those countries are trying to protect their data *from* the US (companies). That’s why the US doesn’t care about sovereign data.

Also, I really hate double-blind. Sometimes it really matters who did the work. Reading 10 pages in a vacuum works great for simple stuff but sometimes, I really need to know who’s writing to be able to trust that the hidden details are done right.

Pleasantly surprised at how good the SC25 submissions I'm reviewing are. Numerical analysis and mixed precision are making a very strong showing this year. It's almost as if there is more to life than IEEE binary64...

It depends on the goal. For function, it’s GCC. For GPU, it’s NVHPC. For ideals, it’s LLVM Flang. I support all the compilers in my projects.

1. LLM-generated code tries to run code from online software packages. Which is normal but
2. The packages don’t exist. Which would normally cause an error but
3. Nefarious people have made malware under the package names that LLMs make up most often. So
4. Now the LLM code points to malware.

The showroom is open on Saturday. They are in the showroom, not the service department. These hours are common for car dealerships in general.

If you want training data for a domain that doesn’t have a corpus like Wikipedia, where do you get it? Physics-based simulation.

I was using Linux desktops and laptops 20 years ago. What is the blocker for you?

Most people just open a browser anyways. My MIL didn’t know she was using openSUSE because the Firefox icon is the same as Windows.

I fail to see how this is materially different from the cronyism that determines many funding decisions today. Most of what I saw in NSF and DOE funding decisions was pattern recognition on a good day.

The author of the linked PR has already done so. I’m well aware of how forks work but I believe that provenance and curation matters a great deal in OSS and thus would like to see the parent repo be authoritative.

Do you have data on how huge the revenue is from this law? Given tax treaties, I’m not sure what it’s worth, other than a subsidy to tax prep services.

1. Damn, I am old.
2. Never let your company pull a Kodak.
