Thankfully, this professional knows me well and knows that I operate from a baseline of integrity and desire for improvement of the profession that makes me tenacious in that effort. They acknowledged that our laughter over the hurdles masked frustration. I am now even more amped for this lecture.

I knew unis were losing money. I know all sorts of educational places are being impacted - including some of the projects I am privileged to work on. And still….this is my first professional experience of having to consider how I frame FACTS in my presentation to these students. 4/x

That students feel emboldened in the actions by federal and state administrations to maintain personal beliefs and not actually learn anything (my paraphrase) with the varied lectures presented to them. 3/x

This is the first year the professor has contacted me ahead of time to warn about the flagged words they aren’t allowed to say to maintain federal and state funding. About a hotline our massively problematic State AG set up to β€œreport indoctrination” in class lectures. And about their concern… 2/x

I have been speaking to a Uni for the last 7 years as a guest lecturer, educating 3rd year college students in their required Intro to Professional Practice class on AIA initiatives, Professional Ethics, and the imprortance of JEDI values in the firms the look to work at and the work they do… 1/x

Thanks for the shoutout! Love that the kiddo continues to see and learn new things with each read - the intent was for the building to grow with kiddos so it makes my heart happy when I hear about it playing out in real life!

Around 5:30pm today, I had a funny thought about something my daughter did that I thought would be worth sharing here. Less than 5hrs later, I cannot for the life of me recall what it was. I have lived 12 lives in that time, and also cannot believe how quickly it goes.

Running metrics for a submission. Pretty cool to see the impact thus far of #AREsketches and #TheLittleArchitectsAlphabet. Wondering the translation of how many new kiddos interested in architecture and licensed folx from these numbers...

A mentee is looking for good, relevant books to continue her learning now that she's passed her AREs: architecture, technology, business. I know what I read, but curious what you would read. Let's make a library list! @cormacphalen.bsky.social @vitruviusgrind.bsky.social @langealexandra.bsky.social

If you ever want to not sit at your desk for more than 2hrs a day, become a PM (lots of meetings) and a new mom (pumping). Wouldn’t change a thing but it def makes you work to understand time chunks for focus and efficiency.

As we enter graduation season, many new #architecture grads are entering an uncertain workforce. This can make you feel like you hardly know anything about the profession. Let me clue you in: no one does when they start. You won't know everything when you're licensed, either. Just. Keep. Learning.

Priority shifts are wild. Early in my career ppl asked how I managed work+ DIY home reno + #AREsketches creation + blog + online life. I would respond that I don't have their family life so my priorities can be different. Now as a wife & new mom....I didn't realize how prescient that comment wld be.

Tariffs Threaten to Push US Home Insurance Rates Even Higher With the Los Angeles fires in January and last week’s severe storms that brought flooding and tornadoes to the Midwest, extreme weather is already battering US homes in 2025. Homeowners should expect ...

Partly because of climate change, home insurance rates are set to keep rising in the US. Tariffs stand to make that worse -- jacking up the cost of materials needed to repair a storm-damaged roof or fix a flooded basement. By @leslieatlarge.bsky.social [gift link]

So much for Hoosier Hospitality, let alone common decency. Then again, the Senator from Indiana has never been one for either of those concepts.

Designing for equity is designing for the future. In the long run, it's more efficient, more welcoming, and costs less.

Designing out of fear of the current administration is short-sighted and perpetuates injustice.

So many other choice words, but I'll end the rant here.

The incident involving the juvenile today marks the 4th in the past week. The victims have been 7, 9, 13 and 7 years old.

Our elected officials? Quiet. Not concerned. Not a one has spoken up. That's who they are. Even the "good" ones don't care that children are being mowed down in our city.

Very few Dutch cyclists wear helmets. Yet theirs are among the safest streets on earth. Why?

They understand it’s more beneficial to calm motor traffic, build dedicated infrastructure, and nurture a culture of everyday cycling. Not force the most vulnerable users to armour up.

The State of Indiana DHS is reducing the review process for certain buildings. So either relying on City (for Indy projects) or integrity of professional submitting to align to code. As someone who worked there prev & saw some of the submitted stuff - yikes. view.subscription.in.gov?qs=e5b62a5dd...

If you need to do this soon, it looks like this hard link web version is still working. You will have to re-make your account. comcheck.energycode.pnl.gov

I'd still recommend downloading the desktop version in case they yeet the thing in its entirety.
