His first adventure and his last.

Duke was the first dog I’d ever lived with and I’m lucky to have had him as my friend.

He saw a lot of mountain adventures for a dog that was born on the East coast.

Though he’d probably have been ok to have fewer of them, preferring naps and snacks to long hikes.

Duke is the reason we have Gary. Gary had the same injury at the same age as Duke and they both had their left femoral head removed.

Last week we had to say goodbye to Duke. 14 years doesn’t feel like nearly enough.

He was a very good boy and I miss him terribly.

Yep he does. Thankfully the boat is durable

(Don’t worry, Gary was fine. This is the only time he’s ever fallen in)

He did. Once. He wasn’t overly impressed about it

A few years ago we put Gary to the test against his buddy Drift to see who would be better at avalanche rescue.
