A split-screen image showing (top) a face view of an elongated ant standing on a reflective surfave, facing us with toothy brown jaws held 180 degrees open, and (bottom), the same ant with jaws closed, the bluntly toothed tips held together.

A textbook image I did a few years ago showing a trap-jaw ant (Odontomachus rixosus) with her mandibles held open and trigger hairs forward, and then in the closed position.

The snapping shut of the trap is one of the fastest measured animal movements.

I’ve said before, that we are a lot closer to the rapid unscheduled disassembly of American Society than it appears, and the administration knows it, so like, today’s speech(es) only further convinces me of that

This is not great, to be clear

SR: They're not looking at the possibility that autistic women have more pain conditions & need to take more Tylenol, & that autistic women have autistic kids. Instead, they're trying to go and blame mothers as they always have, when what we're looking at is more likely a matter of inheritance. 16/

the post office is a public service. it doesn’t need to make money. public transit doesn’t need to make money. the library doesn’t need to make money. some things exist for the public good and we desperately need lawmakers to stop thinking about them in terms of capitalism. these are not businesses.

4. People with combat PTSD are *far* more likely to kill themselves than anyone else.

5. A murderer's status as a military veteran always drives headlines, but it is rarely, if ever, the driving force or precipitating event behind the murder.

Incredible that people would rather live in a higher-crime surveillance state than invest in government services that benefit people they dislike.

Cruising crackdown in Penn Station bathroom puts at least 20 men in ICE custody State and city laws prohibit local police departments from turning people over to ICE. That restriction does not apply to the federally run Amtrak Police Department.

What might not occur to you upon reading this headline is that, in other words, ICE is targeting gay men of color

Happy 71st Birthday to Ruby Bridges, who at the age of 6 desegregated the New Orleans public schools.

She’s younger than 30 senators and our last two presidentsβ€”and only 7 years older than Barack Obama.

The past isn’t past.
