I worked with Janet at the DfE - she was my fellow policy adviser (supporting Lib Dem ministers). She was brilliant and cares more about local government than anyone I've ever met so if you happen to live in her ward do vote for her.

Iβve written, alongside colleagues, to the Minister for Women & Equalities about the appointment of the new EHRC Chair.
We share the concerns that both the JCHR and WEC had during the pre-appointment hearing.
The EHRC urgently needs to rebuild trust with all communities.

With the tweet from BBC News (World) saying: France will recognise Palestinian state, Macron says
In response Ed's tweet says: The UK should be leading on this, not falling behind. Recognise the independent state of Palestine now and take the lead on securing a two-state solution and a lasting peace.

Brilliant news! Josh Babarinde is an absolute star, and we are incredibly lucky to have him in the party. He's hitting all the right notes in this video - standing up to populism, championing diversity, and getting more young people engaged in the party. He'd make a fantastic Party President!

We've been doing the sums - and the Labour government's new approach to how it gives cash to councils is going to be deeply damaging to Southwark and London
Far from levelling up, it's levelling down.
We've asked the new Council leader to work with us to demand a rethink

Southwark Labour's chair has sensationally quit the party and will serve as an independent, claiming an enforced re-run by Labour's
Southwark has huge issues that need addressing. Housing, crime, tackling climate change and more.
The last thing we need is this silly squabbling from Labour.
While they fight amongst themselves, the Lib Dems will continue fighting for residents.

Fantastic to see that the Lib Dems have won more council by-elections than any other party since the local elections in May, winning seats from Labour, the Conservatives and Reform.
Some really great efforts across the country, and more people with hard working, Lib Dem councilors. πͺπΆ

It feels like groundhog day! It turns out Southwark will get a different leader than we thought we had last week.
Even Liz Truss lasted longer!
Utter chaos at every level of the Labour Party - when they should be focused on delivering Southwark residents' priorities.

Southwark deserves better than this ridiculous, student union approach to politics. If Southwark Labour can't even run a leadership election, they shouldn't be running a local authority.

As if the chaos in national politics wasn't enough - Southwark Labour are showing their true colours as unserious student union politicians.
It's no wonder the council is run so poorly when this is how they run leadership elections!

Even with the tweaks, Labour's welfare cuts will push 150,000 more people into poverty. Disability groups across the UK are calling for the government to cancel these cruel cuts, as are the Lib Dems. There's still time for Labour to pull the Bill and go back to the drawing board on welfare reform.

Various items of stationary on gridded paper - with a paint marker having written 'The Welfare Bill: Go Back to the drawing board"
Even the PM's own backbenchers can see the damage these cuts will do - leaving some of the most vulnerable without support and putting unpaid carers in impossible situations.
The Government needs to pull this Bill and go back to the drawing board.

Liberal Democrats do best at beating Reform
Party President Mark Pack presents figures showing how it is only the Lib Dems who are taking on and beating Reform in council by-elections.
What's deeply worrying is the rise of Reform UK. But as @markpackuk.bsky.social has highlighted, the Lib Dems are by far the most effective party at beating Reform at local elections. Where we campaign, we win. 2/2

Last month, the Prime Minister used worrying language - referring to an "island of strangers".
Those who've chosen to make Southwark their home are not strangers to us.
We're writing this letter to him to urge him to reconsider this language, and have invited our Labour colleagues to join us.
