The topic if transit and housing came up and I said my thing.

They disagreed with everything I said and asked: "Are you from here?"

"No, but I've lived here 25 years."

"That doesn't count."

The bit about "long term residents" always takes me aback.

It implies that
1). Your opinion doesn't matter because you haven't been here long enough.

2) Everyone who actually belongs here agrees with me.

Bad news for American Christians, the Pope has apparently read and understood the New Testament.
