Until the RV can run at an extremely high reliability, I think that's right. Any new grade separated lines won't have this problem.

Downtown? Heck yes. With two tunnels there should be more comprehensive plans to interline and the more we do that, the more critical high frequency DT is.

Feels like the SDOT LRP creates the first "official" framework to maybe make progress on that.

The extremely goofy dog that lives in my house managed to pick up an earring while out rustling through the bushes and borking.

Ha, yup. Though I think they kind of have to do things that would enable higher frequency in DSTT1. So that could be much sooner.

From a DSTT perspective you could do whatever frequency you want once DSTT2 opens.

This also means making radical changes in the RV wouldn't be worth it.

03.08.2025 19:33 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The limit in DSTT1 is 3 minutes IIRC, so 3/6 is possible. Also: That's self imposed and could be changed (that would come with some real operating pain though to make needed changes.)

When DSTT2 exists this becomes moot with just the RV line into the new tunnel, obviously.

4 minute headways, OTOH, would totally change rider experience and could be achieved by simply limiting crossings and giving trains proper priority.

03.08.2025 18:59 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Counter point: My most basic assumption is that it's possible to make Link run as-if it were grade separated in terms of speed and reliability and that 90 second headways are unnecessary on a 50-100 year timeline.

03.08.2025 18:58 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

ST2 is going to be 4 downtown and 8 on the outs. The speed and reliability of the line could be greatly improved by reducing crossings/adding arms, etc.

It's possible to run the train fast there and as if it were grade separated there, it just takes political will.

I don't think they would consider 1.5 min frequency on any timeline that will matter to us. If it's a race, I like the bypass line's chances.

They are talking about 8 min frequency with maybe 6 somewhere off in the future.

That said, reducing the crossings and getting better signal timing to avoid slowing trains seems entirely possible.

03.08.2025 13:47 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Are you talking about all the crossings or some of them?

I think closing all the crossings to cars is completely DOA fwiw.

If you ever wondered what it would be like to watch a mostly-functional country just shoot itself in the dick repeatedly, well I have good news for you.

Bingo.

This has been one of my "things" for more than a decade. Nothing will improve on this front, unless people who run local media start taking their responsibility more seriously.

So, shorter version: Nothing will improve on this front.

That reminds me of the time I washed my cybertruck with saltwater and lemon juice because I heard it preserved the finish.

And guess what? Saltwater and lemon juice totally preserved my cybertruck's finish. I was amazed how well saltwater and lemon juice preserved my cybertuck's finish.

They have a very good way to solve this problem: Stop accurately reporting on economic indicators.

Foolproof.

Agree with Mr. Bouie on so many things but hard disagree here.

At the center of the reasons I despise this film is how self serving to the alternate reality presented is.

But also: It's just not a good movie putting aside all that baggage.

A man coughing up blood. Men zip-tied face down on a wet floor. CCTV turned off. Men forced to eat off of a chair like animals while handcuffed. Solitary confinement if you complain. This is just three paragraphs from a new report.

Not all of then are just stupid and naive. This is also intentional.

Since I don't see any signs of anyone backing off of their earlier statements - it doesn't matter which.

They are angry about it because they are morons who don't know how bills work.

Assuming they aren't just part of an opposition action.

At least some of them must have realized their mistake at some point in this process - but yeah, I'm not sure it it's sadder if it's an Op or sadder it's not an Op.

It's some of the dumbest shit I've seen on the internet and even managed to spill into real life.

They are attacking her over an amendment she voted against (by MTG) on a bill she voted against.

Even more incredible, none of them are backing down from their dumb shit takes.
