STOP adapting 80-year-old books into movies and TV series. Stop it. There are a million new novels published every year and 99% of their authors are broke. Stop giving dead people’s descendants money. Books were NOT better a century ago, they were WORSE. They were ALL
WORSE. Create in THIS century.

I'll say it: I think its rly annoying and frankly amateurish that writers are constantly told their villains must be understandable or have sympathetic motivation to be interesting or realistic when all our big villains irl are in fact rich, stupid, selfish, trickster dillweeds and always have been

I see people sharing this, maybe as an act of shared mourning, an attempt to stir action, or confirmation that the world sucks. The death of reef ecosystems pushed me into a panic about climate change in 2013 & led to me starting the Climate Anxiety Counseling booth in 2014. So, a few things (1/5)

Sharing this article in your networks would make a huge difference. Thank you! πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Not everyone can do this, because of work or business reasons, but if you are able, consider restricting DMs to people you follow. That will cut out a lot of spam (although if someone you follow gets hacked, you'll be out of luck).

This is why I say joy/hope are valid forms of defiance. There's as much anger here as with constant doom/brick-throwing rage, but it's expressed differently. Look at how many people are out there, taking action and being disruptive as a *community*. Amazing, tbh.

Who is LakotaMan, the user behind one of the most popular Native American accounts on X? John Martin is adored by white X usersβ€”but infamous among Native and Indigenous communities.

I am seeing a lot of people reposting Lakota Man today bc it's Indigenous Peoples Day. A reminder that he is not well liked amongst many (most?) Natives on social media. Many of us blocked him a long time ago. Some of the reasons why are in this article.

But too many of the slaves died in captivity. And so Columbus, desperate to pay back dividends to those who had in-vested, had to make good his promise to fill the ships with gold. In the province of Cicao on Haiti, where he and his men imagined huge gold fields to exist, they ordered all persons fourteen years or older to collect a certain quantity of gold every three months. When they brought it, they were given copper tokens to hang around their necks. Indians found without a copper token had their hands cut off and bled to death.
The Indians had been given an impossible task. The only gold around was bits of dust garnered from the streams. So they fled, were hunted down with dogs, and were killed.

After each six or eight months' work in the mines, which was the time required of each crew to dig enough gold for melting, up to a third of the men died.
While the men were sent many miles away to the mines, the wives remained to work the soil, forced into the excruciating job of digging and making thousands of hills for cassava plants.
Thus husbands and wives were together only once every eight or ten months and when they met they were so exhausted and depressed on both sides... they ceased to pro-create. As for the newly born, they died early because their mothers, overworked and fam-ished, had no milk to nurse them, and for this reason, while I was in Cuba, 7000 children died in three months. Some mothers even drowned their babies from sheer desper-ation.... In this way, husbands died in the mines, wives died at work, and children died from lack of milk ... and in a short time this land which was so great, so powerful and fer-tile... was depopulated... My eyes have seen these acts so foreign to human nature, and now I tremble as I write....

Please remember that the disgust people have over Christopher Columbus is not based on some modern, 21st century β€œwoke” ideology, but rather on contemporaneous accounts of atrocities that make many modern genocides appear quaint in comparison.

Below, are the accounts of BartlomΓ© de las Casas.

Hey friends, it's not queerbaiting if Chris, aka Peacemaker, a bisexual, has feelings for a woman. It's not schroedinger's queerness. He's still queer even if he's in a het relationship. Of all the complaints I've seen about S2, this one makes me the angriest.

Seen from behind- an enormous emergency red pumpkin sat in a metal wagon. It has a sticker with Kit Kat written on it. A man is towing the wagon down a narrow village pavement.

He had been using two hands behind him to pull, which is the composition I really wanted. But I didn’t want to get all David Hemmings and start posing him.

A photo from the side of the man - big broad smile, like he’d won the lottery - pulling his pumpkin in a trolley.

Saw a man towing a pumpkin. Too many shapes and colours to ignore, so I asked if I could take photos.
β€œIgnore me. Just keep towing; it’s the shape of the pumpkin in the wagon I like” I explained.

He has just won first prize at the village show.

A sponsorship installation for Musks Grok doing AI bullshit at the Tron Ares premiere.

Honestly, Grok sponsoring a Tron movie is the most anti-Tron thing and just shows how much Ares is straight up corporate tech bro propaganda. It’s very sad. Tron has such potential and never fully gets there. Legacy and Uprising are good but Tron: Identity tbh is the franchise peak.
