βBook bans are off the charts. Book bans recorded per school year, July 1, 2021- June 30, 2024. 2,532 books in 21-22, 3,362 books in 22-23, 10,046 (and counting) books in 23-24.β
βNineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult was the most commonly banned book during the 2023-2024 school year, by district. Followed by Looking for Alaska, The Perks of being a Wallflower, Sold, 13 reasons why, crank, identical, the kite runner, the handmaidβs tale, water for elephants and Tricks.
Florida and Iowa recorded the highest number of school book bans during the 2023-2024 school year. 3,671 bans in Iowa and 4,561 bans in Florida. Followed by Texas, Wisconsin, and Kentucky.

An underappreciated aspect of the Nazi rise is how quickly German *society* fell into line. In early March 1933, a majority of German voters voted against the Nazis. By late spring, pretty much the whole country backed them. How did that happen? Here's a little thread. (1/6)
