Where were free speech rights when the FBI assassinated MLK Jr. or Fred Hampton? It’s just nauseating how in the same breath, the writer is indignant about Saudi Arabia, and then praises a fictitious version of the US, a rogue, terrorist state who kills anyone, anywhere with impunity.

Yet, Saudi Arabia is an American *client state*, existing as they do b/c they’re a close US ally. Meanwhile, the US is funding the genocide in Gaza, which has seen the largest slaughter of journalists ever in a war zone. Ever. The writer has another piece titled “Kimmel’s firing is un-American”

It’s weird, because I fully agree with the sentiment here that these assholes are hypocrites. I just don’t understand why Saudi Arabia is specifically targeted. The tone of the piece suggests that somehow the US is better? Chapelle says it’s “easier” to talk in SA vs the USA. The writer is aghast.

Maybe we can just put Drake, Kanye, Puff Daddy, Chris Brown and R. Kelly (feel free to add more names) on an island and let them do Lord of the Flies on each other.

Paramedic protocols are created by people who are not paramedics. They read studies, theorize, and eventually over intellectualize to an ideal circumstance and write a protocol for it. But the social circumstances of our country are so fucked, poverty and sickness so rampant, they often don’t fit.

I’m Canadian, hence my insight into our psychology, and the implementation of MAID here is such a travesty. I’m a paramedic, and we have lots of treatment protocols for people with medical emergencies. Often I work a 12 hour shift and never use one of them. Reality doesn’t conform to policy.

Obviously gambling is habit forming, and we know that it's a money printer for the casinos, because the odds are ever in their favour. But the full blown adoption of sports betting by a huge proportion of men, must be because sports prediction is less unfair and more lucrative, than the economy.

Probably because people, especially Canadians, tie some amount of their self worth to the belief that they're "better" than Americans, and this justifies, in their own minds, not doing anything about the billion and a half problems their own country has. I think it's called the "Downward Comparison"

It was mostly meant to allow corporations to be able to bypass election finance laws and legalize corruption. All countries curtail free speech to some extent, even personal free speech, it just depends on the extent of it. You can't threaten to kill people in the US. In Germany you can't be a Nazi.

But the more explanatory answer is that domestic citizenry laws and borders are meant to control labour, control workers, as commodities. Many ways to exploit this. For example, keeping workers in their countries to be exploited as cheap labour, or else become a migrant worker without rights.

In a way they do? You can't just do business in another country without following some sort of law, typically. Unless you're a pirate gold mining company in Columbia or whatever. But these laws are written by corporations themselves, the most famous of which would be the WTO. Fully undemocratic.

The idea is to get workers as close as possible to having the minimum amount of money to "reproduce their labour" (survive in a specific kind of way that allows them to work), and nothing more. Hence, phone bills, pharmacy bills, rent etc. skyrocketing. They want you to have nothing left.
