First gig of the year, man did I need that. Stygian Bough, the Bell Witch/Aerial Ruin collab. Funeral doom that doesn’t suffocate, it sanctifies. What a beautiful, enveloping wall of sound. Bloody Marvellous

The thrift store gods have shone upon me today I have a bag full of clothes for less than £20 and all of them are black naturally. Delicious dopamine.

"The UK creative industries — which contributed £125 billion to the economy in 2024 and supported 2.4 million jobs — are being destroyed by an AI sector that, whatever its long-term potential, contributed just £11 billion in the same year and supported only 85,000 jobs."

One thing about grief is all the great ways your lovely friends and thoughtful acquaintances find to make you howl with laughter.

A legally metric system, applied imperially, as tradition dictates.

I mean ngl the Daredevil Born Again season 2 trailer has made me a little happy, although can’t help but think is it gonna be more like a docudrama?

Holocaust Memorial Day commenorates six million Jews and other minorities killed in the Holocaust, along with millions of other victims who suffered under the Nazis. It reminds us of the horrors of genocide, past and present and the importance of preventing this terrible crime against humanity.

A lovely mossy boulder with a face. I walked past this venerable stone gentleman on Dartmoor when I was beginning to write my first novel, Villager, and it whispered all 104,000 words of the book to me. So now I have to pay it all of my royalties. Unfortunately my ex-publisher stopped paying me royalties last year. Understandable, the boulder was not happy. But now I have a new publisher and the book is being republished this Thursday. So remember if you purchase a copy you will be helping a boulder to eat, pay the rent on his riverside moss garden, and feed his boulder family.

Yes it could be argued that keeping up with world events is important but alternatively can I interest you in hugging an ancient mossy boulder that looks like a face and quietly listening while it tells you stories from centuries cloaked in mist.

I love the childish humour I share with my cousin Lucy. Whilst the nurse was consoling us after my aunt passed earlier, she asked my uncle what age my aunt was. “69” he replied. Cue ridiculous giggles amidst our sobbing from me and Lucy.

Thankfully my uncle didn’t get the joke.

Best little coffee/bookshop find.

My cousin and I are dealing with the anticipatory grief of my aunts terminal illness by eating patisserie, drinking coffee and reading books. The Norman-French roots are strong here.

This will be such a shame if it doesn’t. Glad my little island of Jersey is, for once, more progressive on this matter.

Stewart Lee just cited Cathar theology & Wittgenstein’s duck/rabbit paradox. to illustrate the difficulty of framing true political statements.

I’m a hugely patient and tolerant person, sometimes too much, but if one more soul suggests “alternative” therapies that could cure the cancer my mum and aunt have…

Now is really not the time my friend.

2/2. For context, I’m facing the imminent loss of a strong maternal figure and potentially in the coming year my wonderful mum, who is now terminally ill with small cell lung cancer.

Being close to loss sharpens everything.
It doesn’t make me retreat it makes me reach for aliveness and connection.
What saddens me is how being hurt before can turn into armour, fear of future loss, and how much living gets missed in the name of self-protection…

I once had a job where I spent a significant amount of time issuing cease and desists and takedowns for explicit Lara Croft content.

Anyway…
