The critical problem is that you can have a Chevy Equinox EV for about $35k, it still goes 300 miles, and it has normal things like a radio. And the new Nissan Leaf is coming in at just under $30k with similar features. Comparable Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Mustang Mach-E also come in just under $40k now

But it also sounds like maybe a Boxster/Cayman would be the sweet spot
I think what you need is an 86/BRZ, if not a Miata. All of that rear-drive poise and spectacular steering, but you can use all the power.
