Mother of Karoline Leavitt’s nephew detained by ICE in Revere; Brazil native came to US as a child - The Boston Globe Bruna Ferreira, 33, was brought to the United States as a child in 1998. She is now in removal proceedings in Louisiana.

Guarantee that Leavitt knows this is happening and knows why. Her brother is using these authoritarian tactics to remove his son's mother from his life.

She was brought here as a child. This is her home. Make no mistake this administration has weaponized the government against us all.

Look, I hate her too but, if this is why she is retiring on 1/5/26, even I'm surprised by her pettiness.

Can we instead point out that she and other gov employees have the opportunity to get a pension at all? That is an outlier in the US now. The Fed system should be the model.

CDC Quietly Turned Off Its Vaccine Search Tool. It’s Not Clear When It’s Coming Back. β€œI have heard that they are planning to β€˜update it’ and shudder to think what that will mean,” Demetre Daskalakis, a former member of CDC leadership, told NOTUS.

Another step toward 'proving' the government can't be trusted. These sites vaccines.gov, covid.gov worked and helped countless people find the tools they needed to stay healthy.

This administration is tearing down the point of government...to serve the people of this country.

We didn't recover from Slavery, the Civil War, Nixon, or Reagan. We've been shambling forward into the future since the beginning and just continue to make the same 'mistakes'.

Could we stop making them? Yes. Will we?

Charlotte's subsequent post made me reread the deferred pension aspect. She wouldn't get it until 62, 11 years away. But yes she would get it.

BTW, this is what we all should be earning over our careers. That only certain industries and companies include this anymore is a travesty.

Congressional pension - Wikipedia

She is likely eligible for continued health insurance for the five years of service as you stated.

However she doesn't appear to fit the requirements for the pension.

On the other site, an 18-year-old Zohran canvasser described the legendary Wallace Shawn as "the actor who plays Dr. Sturgis on Young Sheldon" which is honestly adorable

Either stupid or compromised. In either case just wonderful that this is the "leader" of the Democratic Party.

Of course, there are exceptions. For example, generally warehouse workers aren't directly interacting with customers, but they are the most expendable of the logistics system.

Overall follow the distance from human interaction and you'll see an increase in compensation.

My core belief about capitalism. In fields where working with other humans (healthcare, retail, food service, education, etc) is the main task, the pay and prestige is greater the further you are removed from those human beings.

Think EMS and Nurses vs Surgeons and Hospital Admins.

Library of Congress explains how parts of US Constitution vanished from its website | TechCrunch The U.S. congressional agency confirmed to TechCrunch that the removal of key sections of the Constitution from its website were removed in error. The full text has now been reinstated.

I'm certain that the people at the LoC are looking into how to mitigate this kind of problem in the future. Schematron schematron.com is a wonderful language for validating business logic in XML? I hope the experts at LoC are investigating it as as solution for their future pipelines.

Humans make mistakes. We in the programming world try to reduce those errors by putting a lot of testing (manual and programmatic) around our code. But mistakes do happen, even to a codebase that is very mature like the one at the LoC.

So my thought was that an annotation element was misplaced and that impacted the transformation of the XML to HTML.

The TechCrunch article linked in the first post above, seems to indicate something of that nature occurred. An element was accidentally removed.

The first place this error appeared was in a view of the Constitution designed for teaching and discussion of legal cases impacting the Constitution. And there have been a number of SCOTUS cases recently that fit that description.

But it is fascinating for an XML journeyman like me.

I have worked with many types of XML to {something} and {something} to XML transformations. This led me to believe that someone made an error in the markup - or a 'coding error' as the press wants to describe it.

I've never worked professionally with the LoC. But I have meandered through their standards and documents in the past. As can you! loc.gov/librarians/s...

It is a dizzying set of formats, standards, and frameworks which I wouldn't even try to explain much less understand.

I don't blame them. The vast majority of what our government is now doing is in service of authoritarianism, fascism, and oligarchy.

But I know the LoC stores content in XML and I've worked in XML for decades. So, after the thought, "They wouldn't be THAT stupid?", I turned to something else.

It is an odd experience when new breaks and I know enough about it to immediately realize it isn't what it seems.

Earlier this week the Library of Congress's (LoC) webpage of the Constitution was found to have Articles 8-10 removed. Immediately the internet was awash in people claiming fascism.
