Apparently, Civil Discourse Requires a Bachelorβs Degree
Community colleges deserve to be at the table. When we arenβt, the entire conversation is distorted.
Another thoughtful column by @deandad.bsky.social .
When he observes "...that many policymakers see community colleges as workforce training centers and nothing else," we should note that many officials see all of higher ed this way.

Quite a work wish he had separated the 2 year college from no college group. Still I except the idea that cc students and faculty are more likely to be liberals than the general population and less likely than 4 year.

Advising The Girl
In good conscience, I canβt recommend she pursue a career teaching literature, at which she would excel.
Suppose you have a kid about to graduate college. She would make a fantastic English professor if the field were still hiring, but it isn't, and likely won't be. What would you advise her to do? www.insidehighered.com/opinion/colu...

How Trumpβs War on Higher Education Is Hitting Community Colleges
Since NYT spends 99% of the time talking about elite colleges, its worth highlighting when they put out a great piece on community colleges.
CCs are already under resourced, and the trump cuts to higher ed will limit opportunities for social mobility thru these institutions

My granddaughter is in UK for her BA . Big difference is all courses in major. Left out are most of what we would call gen education credits. Do we want this? Seems to be mostly a problem with science majors and preprof. Seems like 3 year degree easier in humanities?

Colleges, Accreditors and States Embrace 3-Year Degrees
Colleges from Utah to Indiana and Maine are on track to offer three-year degrees in the near future. But the hesitations that have long plagued the movement havenβt disappeared.
A growing number of colleges now offer 90-credit bachelor's degrees instead of the traditional 120 credits after accreditors started giving the green light. It's unclear how employers and grad schools will view these degrees, or if labor market outcomes differ. Keep an eye on this.
