When they borrow money to invest it looks like a bubble to me.

Mike Nellis (@mikenellis) This is the best messaging I’ve seen from any Democrats on the shutdown. Kudos to AOC, Bernie, and their teams for putting this out there.

Advising The Girl In good conscience, I can’t recommend she pursue a career teaching literature, at which she would excel.

Suppose you have a kid about to graduate college. She would make a fantastic English professor if the field were still hiring, but it isn't, and likely won't be. What would you advise her to do? www.insidehighered.com/opinion/colu...

I’d much rather see a student who loves literature study that than force herself to slog through an HVAC program, hating every moment of it. https://bit.ly/4lSS5RT

How Trump’s War on Higher Education Is Hitting Community Colleges

Since NYT spends 99% of the time talking about elite colleges, its worth highlighting when they put out a great piece on community colleges.

CCs are already under resourced, and the trump cuts to higher ed will limit opportunities for social mobility thru these institutions

My granddaughter is in UK for her BA . Big difference is all courses in major. Left out are most of what we would call gen education credits. Do we want this? Seems to be mostly a problem with science majors and preprof. Seems like 3 year degree easier in humanities?

Colleges, Accreditors and States Embrace 3-Year Degrees Colleges from Utah to Indiana and Maine are on track to offer three-year degrees in the near future. But the hesitations that have long plagued the movement haven’t disappeared.

A growing number of colleges now offer 90-credit bachelor's degrees instead of the traditional 120 credits after accreditors started giving the green light. It's unclear how employers and grad schools will view these degrees, or if labor market outcomes differ. Keep an eye on this.

Gave the AI assistant called Claude, developed by Anthropic, something creative that I wrote (a poem). Really impressed with its analysis of my work. It did not rewrite it but judged it. Has anyone used this?

New article by me and CKisker in Change . β€”CCs and the culture wars. β€” On average CCs are more conservative organizations than 4 yr. Survey data shows that faculty are more liberal than general public but less than 4 yr faculty.

True, but I look at the formula if higher costs are put in, colleges may owe more b/c incomes will need to be higher to cover higher costs. Am l wrong?

Been looking at the risk sharing proposal just passed by house. Some have complained that costs of programs based only on tuition+ when major costs like rent are more important.

Some of these students would have gone to the CCs who will now be left with a riskier student body, cuts in budgets and poorer outcomes. So enrollments not only impacted by business cycles but also political cycles. Will performance funding recognize this. No
