This is such a good point. We tell our players 1 gold is a crazy amount. Then a few levels in as a group they have hundreds. None of it makes sense.

Was one of my biggest complaints with 5e. Entire pre-made adventures basically hand wave gold. It also seems to be why their equipment is so much worse than 4e.

This is a really good and accurate take. It's not Jeffries that's Speaker Pelosi's legacy, it's the improved AOC.

She went to as many people as she could on the ground and asked for help. From every community. Been seeing it for weeks, she trusted local staff/mayors who knew their constituents. She genuinely, by the end, ran a fantastic race. Her WAR rating is legitimate.

This is so spot on though. I started by reading random X-Men and Spider-Man comics, absolutely not in correct order. 30 years later I'm still reading comics. So it clearly worked.

I absolutely love my LCS @eastsidemags.bsky.social there is no competition with online vs them. I can walk in, go to a bin, sift through, and find something I've been looking for, or I can randomly go through the wall and find a new book I didn't eveb know I wanted.

What’s a technology that you think is overhyped? I’m going to give a sideways answer to this, which is that the venture capital business model needs to be understood as requiring hype. You can go back to the Netscape IPO, and that was the proof point that made venture capital the financial lifeblood of the tech industry. Venture capital looks at valuations and growth, not necessarily at profit or revenue. So you don’t actually have to invest in technology that works, or that even makes a profit, you simply have to have a narrative that is compelling enough to float those valuations. So you see this repetitive and exhausting hype cycle as a feature in this industry. A couple of years ago, you would have been asking me about the metaverse, then last year, you would have asked me about Web3 and crypto, and for each of these inflection points there’s an Andreessen Horowitz manifesto. It’s not simply that one piece of technology is overhyped, it’s that hype is a necessary ingredient of the current business ecosystem of the tech industry. We should examine how often the financial incentive for hype is rewarded without any real social returns, without any meaningful progress in technology, without these tools and services and worlds ever actually manifesting. That’s key to understanding the growing chasm between the narrative of techno-optimists and the reality of our tech-encumbered world.

Absolutely! I'm not a pro like you, just a regular DM, and I really feel the care put into it. I got to talk to the team on discord and it truly is because they are DMs too. You can tell how much they love and believe in their product.

This is the first and only ttrpg I have a physical book and PDF for. Oh man do I love the PDF, constantly use it for campaign prep. Feels almost necessary. And print a LOT from it.

Whenever anyone tells you “A.i.” is inevitable or you better use it or get left behind, look at where their money comes from.

I will say, if you haven't watched any of it, the first season of Walking Dead is damned near a masterpiece. It falls way off a few seasons in. But the storytelling and cinematography in the first season are worth the time.
