I think that’s a good term but to just push back a little, fascism doesn’t allow “opposition” either so I’m not sure I agree that the term normalizes it. The existence of an opposition means fascism hasn’t fully taken hold.

Not that “opposition,” framing isn’t without its own problems but I think you get more legitimacy with opposition than the idea of freedom fighters.

I think that’s a likely problem. Sure, people who are already engaged might respond well to “resistance,” framing but people think of fighters with fighting. People generally don’t want violence and may react poorly to that kind of messaging. Opposition feels like we can do this without violence.

Utah’s court ruling says the plaintiff also gets to submit maps so if the legislature doesn’t, the plaintiff map goes forward not the legislature’s. The September ruling is to determine if the new map is legal.

Didn’t the Utah supreme court send the case down to the district court? We knew this was coming but it seems likely that they wouldn’t have a reason to overturn the decision… but who knows…

I’m in Utah and this is awesome! We might just have some actual representation… but this isn’t over. Appeals, delays, etc mean it’s unlikely we see a new map in time for 2026.

It is a tragedy. But Democrats need to take power in order to do anything and republicans aren’t going to cooperate to change this unless the status quo hurts them too. We’re past the point where idealism is effective.
