I think about this store, and the other French hypermarkets that…for whatever reason..did not succeed in the US in the wave of 1989-1993…Carrefour, Auchan, Leedmark, Biggs, etc. What could have been….

Walmart had Supercenters by ‘88 but failed at the Hypermarket USA concept.

Leedmark (these are NOT my images) was E. LeClerc’s (France) US attempt at a Hypermarket in the early 90s, this was the only location in existence. Others were planned. Actual corporate name was NEW ELDIS CORP.

Americans “didn’t want to buy clothes and food in one place”…but Walmart is fine….?

Interior. Lighting seems different than most Walmarts. Leedmark was something like 300,000 sqft, and this Walmart is huge.
