Military ethicist here. I used to be Associate Chair of Leadership, Ethics, and Law at USNA. We consistently taught our midshipmen that they should refuse to obey illegal orders. The Uniform Code of Military Justice makes this obligation clear. β€œI was just following orders” is not an excuse, period.

An executive order to ban state AI laws WOULD BE *FLAGRANTLY* UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

Can we please please PLEASE lead w THAT!

Stop just laundering patently illegal and unconstitutional moves as if they’re just normal policy moves.

It’s not hard to frame this correctly!

Aside from the arrogant drama of attempting to blow up the decentralized federalist structure that is at the heart of our entire system of government, going to the mat *to prevent regulation of AI,* of all things β€” AI! Really??!! β€” is a supremely WEIRD and seemingly *nefarious* thing to do.

US education department reassigns many powers to other federal agencies Move marks further dismantling of the department and Democrats criticized administration for β€˜slashing resources’

The Trump administration is breaking the law by transferring critical work to federal agencies that lack the expertise to lead education policy.

Congress must immediately intervene to stop this illegal restructuring and protect our students' right to an education.

This is all John Roberts’ fault Trump owes his corrupt and abusive reign to one man.

There’s one person squarely to blame for Trump’s corruption, authoritarianism & assault on democracy: John Roberts. He’s enabled so much of Trump’s lawlessness while somehow escaping accountability for it

It’s funny how all of the free speech scolds, from the editorial staff of The Atlantic to the New York Times, Jonathan Haidt and FIRE to Robbie Soave, are utterly silent on a wave of mass firings over speech β€” the very thing they claimed to care about. Zero to say about discipline and censorship.

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Tim Cook, the head of Apple, is having a nice dinner with MBS, who regularly orders executions, including for tweets.

Apple hosts "a Saudi app that allows men to track the movement of their wives and daughters. In 2019, Mr. Cook said he would investigate the app, but it is still available today."
