As we have read in Zuboff ( just-infras.illinois.edu/oct-27-shosh... ), collective action is a necessary response to surveillance capitalism, aimed at re-establishing the right to privacy. Extending this to the challenges posed by AI requires collective action for enforceable, principled alignment.

Capitalism is driving the creation of modern AI and corporations have already shown they do not have workers’ best interests in mind by not considering the automation risks. Preemptive principles for the ethics of AI would therefore need to guide specific and enforceable alignment principles.

And the risks of mechanization should be considered before it is implemented. The Luddite case is instructive because there was no attempt to consult skilled artisans on how to deploy mechanized labor. . With AI development, we are once again confronted with the possibility of unintended harm.
