For Fatherโ€™s Day weekend, my dad wanted to go to the #NOKings rally in San Antonio. So proud of him and the millions of others who joined in todayโ€™s protests.

NEW: ALA salutes Dr Carla Hayden for her exceptional service to the nation as the Librarian of Congress. We are deeply disappointed in Dr Hayden's abrupt & unjust dismissal last night, an insult to the scope & breadth of her work.

Linda McMahon wrote Harvard a letter to which they responded by noting areas that are in need of corrections and then posted it on social media.

The Latest from the Institute of Museum and Library Services A temporary restraining order halts further dismantling of the only federal agency for libraries, but the 2026 federal budget calls for eliminating the IMLS completely.

HUGE NEWS.

The judge in the case where 21 state attorneys generals sued the Trump administration over dismantling the IMLS just issued an injunction in favor of the plaintiffs. This is good news & the judge further indicates that the plaintiffs have a STRONG case here.

At least the U.S. is saving democracies around the world by serving as a cautionary tale. That's some comfort, I suppose.

So JD Vance fails at conquering Greenland, breaks a championship trophy, and meets with the pope who dies hours later. He's the Homer Simpson of politicians, but without the endearing charm.

I think a lot abt how marginalized people are expected to be perfect just to be treated w/ basic dignity, just to access legal protection. But democracy canโ€™t mean rights for the respectable few. It has to mean fair and just treatment even for those seen as least deserving. Thatโ€™s the real test.

Hereโ€™s how I ended my testimony today against HB 3225:

If a few Texas parents donโ€™t want their kids to have free and full access to our libraries, let those parents hold their own childrenโ€™s hands, never allow them out of their sight, and never allow them to think for themselves. Thatโ€™s on them.

Japanese American National Museum takes a stand against DOGE cuts to NEH The National Endowment for the Humanities warned museums across the country that it was slashing funding, including money previously pledged to places such as LACMA and the Japanese American National ...

Can we get more of this? โ€œThe Japanese American National Museum will โ€˜scrub nothing,โ€™ Fujioka said, and instead will highlight the importance of DEI.

โ€œOur community is based on diversity, equity is guaranteed to us in the Constitution, and inclusion is what we believe in,โ€ Fujioka said.

Tweet from @A_B_morgan:
My seven-year-old asked for a dictionary this week. We went to the bookshop today to buy one. She walked home hugging it, pausing every so often to look up a word, grinning as though she had been given a book of spells, the key to wonders.

Merriam-Webster QT: The kids are alright.

I just got a public death threat from a few folks who noticed I am doing a library event to talk about my career and my books. They called me all the familiar names, then โ€œI wonโ€™t be sad if someone shoots her in the face.โ€ And a womanโ€™s reply, โ€œRight between the eyes.โ€

I am a childrenโ€™s author.

Agree. I can maybe understand this mindset if we were still in days of yore. But itโ€™s no longer Rep v Dem, itโ€™s tyranny vs democracy.

Another thing that happens when I'm deep in a draft, is that I ignore everything and everyone else. So, as soon as I'm done with the draft and celebratory cocktail, the apology tour begins. You'll probably hear from me soon. #writingcommunity #writesky #writersky

With book bans, Texas librarians are on the frontlines of a culture war The upcoming documentary "The Librarians" explores how Texas became a hotspot for book bansโ€”and how it affects those who just want us to read.

โ€œThe Librarians Documentary
is both grim, encapsulating the ease and viciousness with which miniature theocracies can install themselves in public education, and inspiring, offering portraits of some who choose to fight back.โ€ @thelibrariansfilm.bsky.social
