I was diagnosed in 2019 with Asperger's Syndrome and diagnosed with ADHD in 2025. I am an INFJ personality, and I use gaming and streaming for relief. I love the sea and nature, a regular Cancerian. Also at https://bsky.app/profile/oldredfox.bsky.social

So, RAIBC has nothing to help people with my disabilities. The HAM exam is an unnecessary hurdle that is preventing me from enjoying my hobby. I support licenses, but not these archaic exams. #HamRadio I've been a shortwave listener and CB operator since 1981.

RAIBC – Welcome to the RAIBC website (Charity No. 802348)

I want to take my HAM radio license, but I am terrible at maths and electronics, and my brain doesn't work in the way that taking an exam requires. I've found nothing that supports people like me. I'm hoping raibc.org.uk can help.

Autistic people are made to think that survival is an achievement. Something to be grateful for and even proud of.

But when survival means keeping your body alive while all of your other needs are neglected...

Walking that autistic tightrope trying to communicate with medical providers about symptoms.

Say too much, docs think you're lying or overreacting, say too little, docs think you're fine.

Have to give just the right amount of breadcrumbs for them to believe you and want to help solve the problem.

Working with people with long term medical conditions, a common theme I hear about is a sense of isolation- an absence of social support or 'village' that understands & helps out.

It's another layer of struggle, & isn't a 'psychological problem', it's a social one. But it really magnifies distress.

You are unintentionally gaslighting those of us who KNOW we would be disabled in ANY version of the world no matter how many changes might hypothetically be made to accommodate our differences.

And please... PLEASE believe us.

Thank you.

THIS is what "autism is a disability" means.

If you have ever said to an autistic person that their autism wouldn't be a disability if the world were built for autistic people... I implore you... please don't.

I don't. I support a cure for autism.

I firmly oppose the government’s plans for compulsory digital ID cards.

This is an affront to our civil liberties, and will make the lives of minorities even more difficult and dangerous.

It is excessive state interference β€” and must be resisted.

Snip showing the numbers diagnosed/not diagnosed, by age and male/female.

This is a snip from the paper linked above, which shows the amount of people diagnosed, in each age group, split into basic male/female groups. Well...er....we're absolute rubbish at finding older people, aren't we. Makes a mess of all we think we 'know' about autism, too.

I wish more people understood that not all autism is visible, but all autism is disabling.

If you don't see it, it's because we're actively hiding it. (Not for us, for others.)

But hiding our autism means our needs are also invisible. And unmet needs = inner turmoil. 😣
