The important characterisation of the UK pop'n from More In Common highlights v low levels of trust in most former 'authoritative' professions.

Scientists are the exception.

Trust both fragile & valuable. We scientists must continue to *earn* it. Science communication is more important than ever.

The result? A dangerous #climate feedback loop ♻️:

Experts reveal number of deaths avoided if we cut carbon emissions Cutting greenhouse gases will reduce number of deaths from poor air quality, sayΒ scientists at the University of Leeds.

The #airpollution benefits of a low carbon future.

"Up to 250,000 deaths from poor air quality could be prevented annually in central and western Europe by 2050."

State of the climate: 2025 close behind 2024 as the hottest start to a year - Carbon Brief Global temperatures in the first quarter of 2025 were the 2nd warmest on record, extending a remarkable run of exceptional warmth that began in July 2023.

This time last year the land was saturated with many fields more like swamps than prime farmland. Yields were reduced by as much as 20% due to the flooding, this year we could see the same impacts BUT due to drought!

"As Yorkshire prepares for what is expected to be the hottest day of the year so far, records show the region has endured its driest combined February, March and April for almost 90 years." Some farms have seen less than 25mm of rain in past 10 weeks, we are in a critical time of year for farmers

Yorkshire's lowest rainfall in 90 years as temperature to soar In February, March and April, just 78mm (3in) of rain fell across the region, the lowest since 1938.

I spoke to Paul Hudson yesterday in lovely warm and sunny Woodhouse Moor about the new normal. Driven by a weakening jetstream (as the acrtic warms), weather patterns flip-flop back & forth and extremes get more extreme.

Dr Katherine Calvin, NASA Chief Scientist Trump-Musk just fired, is the highest ranking American on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the IPCC. She is co-chair of Working Group 3 on mitigation. This is a climate attack.
