'Catastrophic' decision to scrap affordable rental program leaves projects in limbo | CBC News The province announced it is reallocating nearly $1.4-billion worth of housing investments, including pausing any funding through the Community Housing Fund. Non-profit housing providers say that will...

B.C. pushed municipalities to build more housing supply and streamlined rules, but pulls the funding for affordable hsng. NPs now have projects stranded after the province scrapped the CH Fund. You can't order cities to build while eliminating the very tools to create non-market homes and no infras.

There is a venn diagram of "We need to believe that AI can develop a real consciousness," "I now adhere to a truly bizarre health routine" and "I need all the money possible and I need it just for me," and at the center of it is "I am terrified of dying and I don't know how to fix that"

tl;dr BC LNG is a favored investment vehicle of a bunch of central Epsteiners and existing projects like Ksi Lisims will put money directly in their pockets

you’re confusing LLMs with ML, which is something the LLM vendors have encouraged on purpose. They are distinct technologies and the conflation of them is a scam.

we are also likely seeing this effect being massively underreported as the people at the front of the line for any comms to journalists wrt AI are overwhelmingly people with some financial stake in it. If even they are admitting this, then it’s probably way worse

this is just the latest study to show that AI tools only give the illusion of efficiency, and actually reduce efficiency. They keep coming and they’ve all been very consistent in their findings.

if the NDP leader isn’t unquestionably pro-labor what is the point of the party

unless @avilewis.ca is able to address this in a believably good faith way, that $10 I spent on an NDP membership will go unused, in a leadership contest sense.

This is truly appalling to see from what many see as the NDP leadership frontrunner. A union organized at an advocacy group founded by Avi Lewis and was met with nine months of silence then a shutdown. Absolutely he must be held to account for whatever happened here.

But you need to understand, the replies there are better and people are willing to have a real debate and challenge their views.

Trust me. I’m a moron

this is the most clear indication that we’re dealing with people who are effectively religious zealots. You don’t tell your staff to use a chatbot that hardly works unless you think it might eventually become sentient through people asking it to summarize emails

The most important bit of this article is the last sentence:

β€œTop-down mandates to use large language models are crazy,” says one current Block employee. β€œIf the tool were good, we’d all just use it.”

Black-and-white studio portrait of Abraham Beverley Walker shown in left profile. He wears round eyeglasses, has a mustache and a small goatee, and short, curly hair. He is dressed in a dark suit jacket over a vest with a white shirt and patterned tie. The background is plain and light, and the image is framed as a rectangular print with a thin border.

Abraham Beverly Walker broke barriers in late 19th-century Canada as a lawyer, journalist, and civil rights advocate. He challenged segregation in courts and in print, arguing Black Canadians deserved full equality under the law.
This is his story.

I'm going to actively begin the process of migrating off of Substack to Ghost.

I have a bestseller Substack, in the top 50 for world politics, but I can't justify using this platform.

Nothing should change for my subscribers except possibly those with iOS subscriptions.

I'll keep you posted :)
