You're right, functionally and categorically they count as AI. The only point I was trying to make is that what we have now does not strive to qualify as the specific "actual" artificial intelligence in the popular imaginary of what the term has often implied.

None of this has ever been actual AI. In principle we know how to make systems that produce profoundly emergent behavior from very simple sets of rules, -- just look at what was utilized in the first FEAR game. But a system you can't fully control isn't profitable, so we get gross facsimile.

this year I endeavor to actually finish an album I started writing songs for 16 years ago, that I have scrapped nearly complete versions of at least five times.

This was the first song I wrote for it, so it's the first one I'm recording.
