this is true, I should have clarified - my understanding is the flavors of the dish were influenced by being made for a British audience, possibly analogous to how eg texmex changed some aspects of mexican food

I feel like Indian might be an equivalent in the sense that what most Americans think of as Indian food (chicken tikka masala) is really a British invention, so in both cases the food is interpreted through two layers of whiteness
