Amongst other things, it is abundantly clear (again) that a lot of white dudes will fall all over themselves to make a mediocre white woman into something she isn't to justify their horny blindness & sexism. She does seem to be good at grifting, though.

The fact is no human being thinks exactly the same way another one does and that's a good thing. Demonizing neurodiversity is really just demonizing being human. Which is really, really, stupid.

I mean, we -barely- understand Autism and neurodiversity and while you can obviously study more than one thing about it at the same time, it really seems like the resources focusing on a "cause" really just want to find someone to blame and/or a cure. And for what, human brains being complicated?

Anyway, I'm not arguing that there are many challenging things about Autism, from SPD to anxiety and more. But this is what i mean about resources going to support the things autistic people need right now. That should be the priority.

And because it always comes up: my child is AuDHD and so is my partner. They both have varying & changing support needs. They do not need a "cure" and the cause is very much "genetics". I would not change them for anything. If you feel differently, go make your own thread.

I mean, universal healthcare, universal basic income, real disability support that does not come with insane conditions like not being able to have savings etc. would go a long way in making the lives of autistic people better regardless of type or degree of support needs.

The reason why every day life can be so overwhelming for Autistic folks is not because their autism is bad. It's because our world is set up to be as unaccommodating as possible to anything that strays from an extremely narrow "normal" that doesn't actually exist.

It's an ethical minefield to even be suggesting that neurodiversity like Autism should be "cured". It's such an individual experience with different support needs. I honestly do not believe the "cure" approach can be anything but eugenics.

This is the thing for me. And I think it's deliberate because concentrating resources in this way continues the negative view of Autism as something that needs curing & avoids addressing ableism. We could make the lives of autistic people better, now, today, with comprehensive & individual support.

I've caught several people doing it here and I'm always like, please stop they are plenty well fed and a kid is going to get bit! There's a lady who has "named" them like you can tell squirrels apart who brings like a 5lb bag of whole peanuts. Which always end up in my damn patio.

Have you watched The Glory? It's a dark thriller that is maybe the most cathartic anti-bullying story I have ever seen. Also a very lovely romance.

Like, we've had squirrels bang on our patio door and one LEAPT at our kitchen window and hung off the screen once. They will YELL at you in the morning, too. And yeah, haha, it's a squirrel but raccoons are much much smarter and they have thumbs.

1000%. Sometimes I use it as a pure smackdown, especially online if people are just being awful. But it's just useful in person when I usually have to be more careful and diffuse rather than smack.
