Temporary homeless shelter opened at former north end Peterborough fire hall had no visitors in first five days 40-bed shelter, operated by Brock Mission, opened Aug. 25 and could remain open for up to 90 days.

This was never meant to provide shelter, it's to justify the further disenfranchisement of some of the most vulnerable in our community through enforcement and evictions. Councillors are not being consulted and costs for enforcement are unknown to date. A report should be public later this month.

Mobility lanes move more than just people on bikes and they often create much needed space that our minimal sidewalks lack.

It's as if the shelter were planned by someone with their own house and car, not by someone who would have to walk 5 km (carrying their belongings) away from their friends and amenities and services to an isolated room of uncomfortable camp cots.

Ontario needs to decide if our criminal-justice system is effective or not. We can't incarcerate people and then never let them back into society. This ostracism leads to mental health issues and more crime.

Why are we calling these 'affordable'? If someone is making minimum wage, these rents leave money for anything but the very basic necessities--with no emergencies. It seems the term 'affordable' has been defined by people with a lot of disposable income.

No level of enforcement will get us out of a crisis of human security. Meeting human needs creates community safety.

Is there something in the Ptbo councillor job description that says they only have to work for the citizens who voted for them?

What if, rather than deciding who is deserving of basic rights in this city, we just ensured everyone has them. That, I'm sure, would make for a much more efficient meeting.

What if people wanted to get rid of them? Can I send the majority of Northcrest to live elsewhere? Maybe Toronto. Does Toronto have appropriate services for those who are not able to love with others?
