What computer technology has revealed is that the rules are fake, and that we can create anything.
There are no mediums, only mediums.
Arc System Works defied 3D logic with Guilty Gear Xrd, and changed an entire art form overnight.
There is no idea too crazy in this world to not make real.
It doesn't necessarily mean use AI, but what it does mean is learning Blender, Godot, Processing, animation, videotronics, kinematics, photography, etc.
It's challenging our very identities as artists, daring to evolve into new frontiers, as Gene Youngblood and Roy Ascott advocated for 50+ years.
I don't use GenAI. But when I stumble on anime images created by these models, what it inspires me to do is to create these aesthetics with my own two hands.
I think to myself, "artists can create this shit. But in order to do so, we need to rise to the challenge of learning emerging technologies."
It's producing anime aesthetics that I've never seen before from any artist, anime, video game, comic, or illustration.
This technology is creating new aesthetics, not being burdened by cultural baggage or the material constraints of traditional mediums.
AI, unlike humans, has not been taught limitations from experience. It doesn't treat "2D" and "3D" as separate categories, but embraces both.
It doesn't delineate between "high" and "low" art, but synthesizes them.
Despite genAI's well-deserved criticisms, what this tech is revealing is that we now have the ability to create any kind of image.
These models, albeit unethically, have been trained on virtually every movement, medium, theory, and style of art.
Then throws all those rules out the window.
Soon, we'll oversee a budget of more than $100 billion — and every dollar will reflect our commitment to working New Yorkers and delivering universal childcare. Good thing some little New Yorkers gave me a counting lesson today!

But they need your help. Here are the best ways to do that:
I want you to understand what it is like to live in Chicago during this time. Every day my phone buzzes. It is a neighborhood group: four people were kidnapped at the corner drugstore. A friend a mile away sends a Slack message: she was at the scene when masked men assaulted and abducted two people on the street. A plumber working on my pipes is distraught, and I find out that two of his employees were kidnapped that morning. A week later it happens again. An email arrives. Agents with guns have chased a teacher into the school where she works. They did not have a warrant. They dragged her away, ignoring her and her colleagues’ pleas to show proof of her documentation. That evening I stand a few feet from the parents of Rayito de Sol and listen to them describe, with anguish, how good Ms. Diana was to their children. What it is like to have strangers with guns traumatize your kids. For a teacher to hide a three-year-old child for fear they might be killed. How their relatives will no longer leave the house. I hear the pain and fury in their voices, and I wonder who will be next. Understand what it is to pray in Chicago.

Girl Scouts in a Chicago Suburb hosted a food drive. But the girls encountered masked U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents with weapons.

Why should I write better when a machine can do it for me? Because actually no one can do it for you, because your voice is unique among all the people on earth. Siri never petted a horse's neck. Alexa has never been ghosted by the captain of the football team. But you have lived, your heart is beating, you have suffered, and you have something important to say. It's a human's job, to use words, and whatever job you give to a machine, that part of your brain goes dark. Maybe it's worth it when it comes to remembering phone numbers and directions, but when that part of your brain that uses words goes dark, that's a vast area that's very close to your soul. Don't let some internet platform convince you that what you have to say and create isn't worthwhile. Words are the echo of your soul. Honing that echo matters.

October 14: The year's vaccination campaign begins to widespread shortages.
I have been trying to raise awareness about the recent cuts to pandemic preparedness by provincial institutions in BC for the past 1½ months. Most of the cuts were not announced to the public beforehand and media coverage has been scant. 1/?
