The image contains a passage of text discussing totalitarianism, highlighting the persecution of intellectual activity and the suppression of free initiative under such regimes. Some sections of the text are highlighted in different colors:

A portion of the text in yellow-green states that mass leaders persecute intellectual activities not just out of resentment but due to an inability to understand them.

A section in dark purple emphasizes that "total domination does not allow for free initiative in any field of life, for any activity that is not entirely predictable."

Another yellow-green highlighted section critiques totalitarianism for replacing first-rate talents with less competent individuals who guarantee loyalty.

The text visually contrasts regular black-background white text with highlighted sections to emphasize key ideas about the nature of totalitarian leadership and suppression of intellectual and creative expression.

Hannah Arendt perfectly explains how authoritarianism works.

This is a hard era. But I'm buoyed today by the lessons so many emphasize:

* Picking a lane and working in community is how we make a difference
* Joy is vital, art is critical
* It's unhelpful to be aware of and outraged by every horrible thing

Sometimes, we'll despair. But these truths will help

One of my favorite times was when you asked people to post pictures of them with your book. It was fun engagement.

Was driving through southern Iowa today (typically pretty red area) and I saw more Harris than Trump signs, no my surprise. My brother-in-law is seeing the same in NW Iowa. It's not so much that Iowa is less red but maybe the enthusiasm for the candidate is way less.
