New poll. Scottish Greens on course for record result. 2021 result: 8 MSPs. Latest poll: 15 MSPs.

🚨

A new poll shows the Scottish Greens on course to win 15 MSPs, nearly doubling our 2021 result!

According to Prof John Curtice this would put us ahead of Labour and level with the Tories in second place.

Scotland can bring real change. We can build a fairer, greener country for everyone.

Statement on the British Steel industry and the government’s Failure to protect workers and communities

As Scottish Greens gathered at our conference on Saturday, the House of Commons were discussing the “Steel Industry (Special Measures) Act 2025”. A bill which while stopping short of nationalisation showed that it is possible for central government to step in and take control of industry in the face of multinational corporations who refuse to act in the best interests of the workers and their communities. These are bad faith actors who refuse working class communities any form of just transition instead preferring something akin to the ruin left by the deindustrialisation of the Thatcher era.

The Scottish Greens Trade Union Group commend Labour for choosing to forsake the neoliberal orthodoxy in this situation and take some level of control of British Steel, keeping the Scunthorpe site running. However, we cannot understand why they will not show the same urgency to secure the future of the Petroineos Oil Refinery at Grangemouth or the Tata Steelworks in Port Talbot which closed late last year. Both of these sites would have a clear and important role to play in a just transition for both industries, they are both hugely important to their respective communities like Grangemouth.

The fact that Scunthrope is deemed worthy of saving while Grangemouth and Port Talbot aren’t sends the message that Scottish and Welsh industry are not essential, that workers outside of England have no role to play in Labour’s economic vision. This represents a bizarre display of English nationalism from a party normally so insistent on Scotland’s continued place in the United Kingdom.

We need to see Grangemouth nationalised as soon as possible, this will allow for a real just transition to take place at the refinery and save 3000 jobs with one stroke. The neoliberal orthodoxy and the multinational vultures who exploit it have failed workers, it is time for governments to take the initiative and show a different way forward.

Quote from Lorna Slater MSP: The rich have gotten staggeringly wealthy while everyone else’s wages have declined and your pound does not go as far as it used to. Their money just goes up and up and up.

We have plenty of wealth in our society, but is being hoarded by a very few. We need to tax that wealth to make sure that money can be reinvested.

We live in a country where the richest 1% control 70% of the wealth.

➡️Endless growth won't bring down your bills; we need to redistribute wealth to the working class.

🟢Scottish Greens would introduce a wealth tax, delivering £70bn for our public services.

Reform UK won 0 seats. Came 4th.

They’ve won only 10 seats from 191 by-elections since the General Election.

Scotland has massive potential for renewable energy.

🌍We have the resources.
👷‍♂️We have the workers.

What we need is politicians to provide workers a real opportunity to transition to greener industries as we move away from fossil fuels.

Petition: Tighten the rules on political donations We want the government to: Remove loopholes that allow wealthy foreign individuals to make donations into UK political parties (e.g. by funnelling through UK registered companies). Cap all donations ...

With Elon Musk stating he wants to donate £100m to reform UK it’s clear that the UK Govt needs to look at reforming the rules on political donations in order prevent foreign interference in our politics and elections.
