Maybe it's because, as he recently revealed, Newsom can't read. Hearing an adjective describe a noun is inherently repellent to him. But no, it's because he's a wealthy misogynist with a connection to the capitalist class's pedo cult.

and it is impossible under capitalism for the same reason: those who fund our political parties do so to avoid funding *anything* else via taxation

civic elimination of public restrooms is best viewed as a conscious tactic to erode solidarity with and demonize the homeless by political parties who love a handy scapegoat for their failed policies

I don't know about you, but if I were a tech company or a policymaker, I would read that response as a warningβ€”people are tired of having for-profit technologies that corrode their lives and communities rammed down their throats against their will. And some are willing to destroy them.

Well this story blew up. Went to the front page of reddit, hacker news, Gizmodo. People donated thousands of dollars to the legal fund of Jeff Sovern, who dismantled 13 Flock surveillance cameras. The response was near-universal enthusiasm for the project of smashing invasive, exploitative tech.

I do think a big reason tech CEOs also cooked their own minds on the AI chatbots they foist upon us is that having personalized automated yes-men to chop it up with doesn't diverge much from the environments they've cultivated where everyone they speak to's livelihoods depend on uncritical agreement

Now, we don't have the PhD student's side of the story. But there's research on women PhD students and postdocs in STEM fields showing that they often leave their programs because of the sexist mistreatment they face from men like this.

Note how Schank also takes credit for his former PhD student's brilliance, saying "she failed to be brilliant when I made her leave Yale; she needed a man in order to be smart; they all do."

This is the logic that allows men to justify exploiting women's intellectual labor for their own gain.

Epstein responds in the affirmative, insisting "no really smart women---none." Schank, in turn, admits that his "very best Phd student was female," but laments that she "decided to quit being a professor," adding "that is the point; no matter how smart, she wanted to be liked or some such crap."

Relevant to today's conversation about AI's inherent sexism, here's an email from cognitive psychologist and early AI theorist Roger Schank, arguing to Epstein that women can't be truly intelligent, because they care too much about what other people think.
