On The Beach was an emotional trial to read (in the best way) but I've never re-read it.

Fluencing one transport system at a time. (Currently here, the old place and the pachyderm place all under the same handle)

It frustrates the heck out of me I have an EV charger and a Home Battery that 10 years ago would have had a set of dry contacts and a bit of wire to communicate so the EV doesn't drain the battery, but now I need to have internet and 2 cloud services and HA (and watch for Auth tokens running out)
26.12.2025 11:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I've ended up using HA more as an advanced data logger, a lot of the control systems in the house are 10+ years old and so cloud free (and I like that) but the handful of automations are useful.

Merry Christmas Luke, thanks for another year of bringing a little joy to the world π
25.12.2025 09:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Very cool. I had similar lab techs who let me experiment with historical photo development solutions back in the day even if some components were a bit shall we say a bit spicy.
I only once worked with HF acid though, scary stuff needing much respect.
How cool! Was it a hobby or professional?

Darn phone keyboards, I miss my proper Blackberry one.
A canopy roof over two empty platforms at Alstom Station on the South Tyndale Railway
That feeling when you get there in good time for the first train at 10.50
And then find it was 10.30 and you've missed it by 4 minutes π€¦
Still there is lovely cafe at Alstom Station so there are upside while you wait!

12.10.2025 11:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Well, actually, the most disturbing thing is silence so the usual technique is to grab a section of background noise and use that - so you were not wrong.

It's been a few years but today the Actions finally made it back to the GCR for a days rail riding.
This station has a special place in my heart as my earliest memory of visiting a heritage railway with Senior Gricer. I was both thrilled and then terrified when a safety valve lifted next to us!
If you fancy playing with separation then have you tried recording from the MS capsule raw and mixing down to LR in the mix? This ability is one reason why MS is so popular as you can tweak later...
www.soundonsound.com/techniques/i...
When I'm performance recording I have the H6 central to the stage with the MS capsule and then two boundary mics on the wings - tend to route the MS to the centre channel of the 5.1 mix and the boundaries to the LR. I have a RODE short shotgun at the rear of the room that I mix to surround.
