This weekend I graduated from the @denverzoo.bsky.social Docent class of 2026! This months-long course was 75+ hours of work. Research, being mentored by other docents, and learning about concepts like teaching with empathy and conservation optimism. Looking forward to interpretation at DZCA!

Here's a little info from the website about Taima, the hawk mascot (Buteo are often also known as buzzards) owned by the Seahawks. www.seahawks.com/mascots/taima/

It's an augur buzzard, since ospreys cannot be used for commercial use in America. Same genus as red tailed hawk though. Osprey are the only true "sea hawk".

Another bird fact: outside of North America, it's common to refer to birds like the Augur hawk or red railed hawk as "buzzards", even though that term here tends to conjure up images of vultures. Both birds of prey but a bit different!

That's so awful to hear. I see my parents and in-laws struggle more and more daily just to exist/make medical appts/save on groceries without constant assistance. More programs like this need to exist! Plus a great way to keep seniors connected with the community for lots of good reasons.
