As a DC resident … this is beyond tone deaf

For as much as some members of Congress say the D.C. government is dysfunctional and should be disbanded, it's worth noting that the D.C. government will open and operate normally tomorrow because elected officials can do stuff like, you know, pass annual budgets.

Today 31 Democrats chose to side with Donald Trump over DC.

lol I don’t want to be in his party. His staff was awful and rude and he’s barely a democrat.

Maybe Red state governors are sending their national guard to DC because they’d be safer there picking up trash than patrolling their own murder capitals.

I daydream about being woken in the dead of night by the sound of shouts, cheers, and car horns.

We want safe communities and there are serious solutions the federal government needs to get to work on:
- Congress fixing $1B budget gap they left for DC
- Senate filling judicial vacancies
- USAO prosecuting violent crimes

The militarization of our streets must end after the 30 day period.

At what point does the military feel humiliated enough to object to being ordered to pick up trash and do landscaping in DC

It is one of the most beautiful weather days in D.C. this summer and the Tidal Basin is a ghost town. And it’s not because all the “criminals” aren’t going there anymore. It’s because no one wants to go there because D.C. is militarized.

It sure would be nice to have a mayor who thought and talked like this in the city that’s currently occupied by thousands of troops and federal agents

As a DC resident I feel like I should say:

This is a complete and utter lie.

My kid, under age 12, walked to school last year into an area close to downtown.
Telling the truth is an important thing.

For folks not in DC:
- There are full-on police checkpoints most nights
- Gangs of 30+ federal agents roam DC
- National Guard folks w/ guns patrolling a Harris Teeter
- Every day, multiple friends see ICE kidnapping ppl
- Daycares are scared to have kids go on walks due to ICE

Ok cool skeet but yet again as a DC resident with no representation how will you help free us of these militarized streets?

It’s funny, we never get those anguished “but how will I explain this to my child?” posts when it’s armed goons violently snatching people off the street.

They save that for the real horrors, like someone having two dads.

I am once again asking those of you with voting representation to call them and demand they go all out to end the “emergency.”

The military outside our metro is not a “distraction.” Taking delivery drivers off their mopeds is not a “stunt.” DC residents are real people with real lives being ruined.

“Thank GOD the National Guard is here while I EAT MY PIZZA,” shouts a woman at Red Light on 14th in DC as yet another trio of guardsmen walk by.

D.C. has more residents than two U.S. states. They pay more per capita in federal taxes than any other state.

But they don’t get a serious seat at the table to decide how they’re governed.

D.C. statehood now.

As GOP governors deploy National Guard to D.C., they have the underlying policy backwards Six Republican governors are sending troops to Washington, D.C., despite the fact that crime rates are higher in their own states.

These people are cowards. They operate on intimidation and expect you to comply in advance. When people come together to oppose their agenda, they flee like the yellow-bellied punks they are. Stand strong, folks. Hound them out of your community.
