Koreader is alternate firmware that is extremely customizable, but kind of a pain in the ass. I’m back to vanilla firmware, for the moment.

You might check out Calibre. It’s desktop software that will perform the USB side loading for you, along with managing your library. Free and open source.

A) What Kobo are you on?
B) Vanilla or Koreader (or some other)?
C) I’ve found Calibre and Dropbox both make side-loading really easy.
