Wild. And yeah, I’d have to be really fucking hungry to put up with that shit.

At self checkout? I’ve never encountered that. I’ve been prompted I for my email for a copy of the receipt (which I’ve always declined in favour of paper), but never forced.

The only remaining virtue is the line efficiency. One line and six checkouts means one slow person doesn’t fuck everyone in line.

Best are the places that do a single line and multiple human cashiers. But I only really see that consistently at Canadian Tire and Winners. Which is a shame.

I don’t hate self checkout, *if it lets me go fast*. If I have duplicates of the same item, but I can’t scan them in rapid succession without putting each one on the scale, it’s a fucking waste.

I haven’t found one that would let me go fast in a few years though.

Could you use a sous vide circulator? I imagine you’d have to clean it pretty thoroughly afterward, but is there any reason it wouldn’t work (or work well)?

If Calgary had twice the population, why were most of the seats around Edmonton and North?

It’s actually the stylist that I wish I could afford. I have no eye for it myself (and no pressing need to develop one), but I appreciate style when I see it.

I’m debating where Apple services should fit. I’m pretty disappointed with Tim’s recent performance sucking up to Trump, but on a fundamental level I’m Apple’s customer, not their product. Our interests are aligned in a way they aren’t with the advertising firms like Google and Meta.

I’ve been slowly extricating myself from Google’s services. Kagi for search, Protonmail with a personal domain for email, but maps is probably gonna be the last one.

Though, if you use an iPhone, I must say that Apple Maps has come a long way from its laughable state at launch.

I keep my phone and my home internet with different carriers. Mostly because I’m lazy, but the redundancy reinforces the laziness.

Huh? There’s a no frills a 10 minute walk from my house. I can bike there as fast as I can drive. Add in time dealing with parking and it’s a wash. The kid’s wagon can haul as much as a trunk.

I've not driven through Manitoba, but I've done Ontario to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick feels fucking endless, man. At least Quebec has scenery. NB is just trees and moose fence punctuated only by Irving stations. The speed limit is 110 because even they understand.

Yeah, that’s what I was wondering. So the aircraft folks get one (1) point.

10.08.2025 14:24 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Would seat tracks be inappropriate on a submarine? Or is this a generally good idea that originated with aircraft that should be adopted widely?

Thanks for the insight! It’s nice to know my pithy remark actually aligns with the experience of people who know what they’re talking about.
