Toronto based human.

18.08.2025 19:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0At self checkout? Iβve never encountered that. Iβve been prompted I for my email for a copy of the receipt (which Iβve always declined in favour of paper), but never forced.
18.08.2025 19:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The only remaining virtue is the line efficiency. One line and six checkouts means one slow person doesnβt fuck everyone in line.
Best are the places that do a single line and multiple human cashiers. But I only really see that consistently at Canadian Tire and Winners. Which is a shame.
I donβt hate self checkout, *if it lets me go fast*. If I have duplicates of the same item, but I canβt scan them in rapid succession without putting each one on the scale, itβs a fucking waste.
I havenβt found one that would let me go fast in a few years though.
Might be part of some trim packages on a Subaru.

17.08.2025 23:26 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Could you use a sous vide circulator? I imagine youβd have to clean it pretty thoroughly afterward, but is there any reason it wouldnβt work (or work well)?
17.08.2025 15:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0If Calgary had twice the population, why were most of the seats around Edmonton and North?
17.08.2025 15:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Itβs actually the stylist that I wish I could afford. I have no eye for it myself (and no pressing need to develop one), but I appreciate style when I see it.
17.08.2025 15:16 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Iβm debating where Apple services should fit. Iβm pretty disappointed with Timβs recent performance sucking up to Trump, but on a fundamental level Iβm Appleβs customer, not their product. Our interests are aligned in a way they arenβt with the advertising firms like Google and Meta.
16.08.2025 19:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Iβve been slowly extricating myself from Googleβs services. Kagi for search, Protonmail with a personal domain for email, but maps is probably gonna be the last one.
Though, if you use an iPhone, I must say that Apple Maps has come a long way from its laughable state at launch.
Hard to have a blue sky without some sunshine though.

I keep my phone and my home internet with different carriers. Mostly because Iβm lazy, but the redundancy reinforces the laziness.
13.08.2025 02:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yup. Came to the comments to confirm if Spawn had been mentioned. Itβs definitely in the running.

11.08.2025 01:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Huh? Thereβs a no frills a 10 minute walk from my house. I can bike there as fast as I can drive. Add in time dealing with parking and itβs a wash. The kidβs wagon can haul as much as a trunk.

10.08.2025 23:27 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I've not driven through Manitoba, but I've done Ontario to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick feels fucking endless, man. At least Quebec has scenery. NB is just trees and moose fence punctuated only by Irving stations. The speed limit is 110 because even they understand.
10.08.2025 14:55 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0Yeah, thatβs what I was wondering. So the aircraft folks get one (1) point.
10.08.2025 14:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Would seat tracks be inappropriate on a submarine? Or is this a generally good idea that originated with aircraft that should be adopted widely?
