Stage four is usually spend several days recuperating in a warm, dark room

All social interaction/events follow three stages for me

Stage 1: I agree to the social event (or possibly even suggest the social event)

Stage 2: I dread the social event as if I'm to be torn apart by wolves.

Stage 3: I enjoy the social event

Johnson's work is heavily weighted to exploring the "feminine" and "masculine" as principles that belong to all. In this quote, while it specifically says "woman", he is noting that silence is a quality that applies to the feminine, regardless of gender. That is what his books are all about.
