US Supreme Court clears way for Trump to gut Education Department The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday cleared the way for President Donald Trump's administration to resume dismantling the Department of Education, part of his bid to shrink the federal government's role in education in favor of more control by the states.

California colleges spend millions on AI detectors. Is the faulty tech worth it? Turnitin’s AI detectors are flawed and the company demands forever access to student papers.

As FACCC Past President Wendy Brill-Wynkoop noted, she and her colleagues never imagined that the student paper database they contributed to in the name of academic integrity would one day become a source of profit for Turnitin.

Today, we observe #Juneteenth, a national holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved people in the U.S. Juneteenth marks the day freedom was enforced in Texas, honoring the end of slavery and the ongoing fight for justice.

Huge thanks to Senator Archuleta for his leadership, and to K. Frindell Teuscher of Santa Rosa Junior College, Chair of the FACCC Policy Committee, and Sarah Thompson of Las Positas College, FACCC Vice President, for their powerful testimony today in support of transparency and student equity.

Experts recommend reserves around 17% of annual budgets, but the statewide average is 37%, with some districts holding over 80%, all while classes are being CUT and student support UNDERFUNDED.

🚨Another big win today! The Joint Legislative Audit Committee approved a FACCC-sponsored audit, authored by Senator Bob Archuleta, to investigate excessive reserve funds in California community college districts.

FACCC Executive Director Stephanie Goldman weighed in on the potential statewide impact:
“I don’t think anybody would be surprised if it had a ripple effect across the state.”

Community college adjunct professors optimistic as two lawsuits over pay progress Two lawsuits, in courts in Sacramento and Los Angeles, advance the argument that adjunct professors should be paid more for the work they perform.

Two recent court decisions could mark a turning point for part-time faculty rights in California's community colleges. As lawsuits related to unpaid labor move forward, districts statewide are beginning to take notice.
