So that was Saturday February 14th 2026. Crikey. Another day done, another day nearly here. So it goes.

(Dated this day in 1981, 2000AD #199, with its cover featuring Judge Dredd in a spot of bother by Brian Bolland.)

And so to bed. Sleep well, gentle sentients. May your tomorrow be kind.

basically, we've utterly erased the rights & healthcare access of a vulnerable minority because a very small group (of apparently very well-connected) of people became fanatical about it & the (also very small) group who decide press coverage decided they needed relentless coverage

NHS closed Tavistock over care complaints – there were only eight An eye-opening FOI report has revealed that just eight people complained about the Tavistock gender clinic's care provision in 10 years.

a clinic that provided services to 12,000 people being closed on the basis of 8 complaints perfectly captures the nature of the uk 'trans-debate'

Britain’s Bathroom Ban The UK has gone from a bathroom ban being unthinkable to a Labour government implementing an extraordinarily authoritarian oneβ€”without a vote.

bathroom access, for instance, just wasn't an issue that came up until then - when it did a us-style bathroom ban was dismissed as unthinkable by mps

the same mps that are going along with one now, incidentally

a stat i always cite is the number of anti-trans articles in the press went from 60 in a year, to 7,500

the idea that this was a popular backlash to a socially dominant 'woke' worldview, pushing pronouns down all of our thoughts is absurd

a decade ago most brits did not hold well defined views on this, there was a bi-partisan consensus for tolerance

one of the things i got from diving into the weeds of this debate for my reporting on it was just how small the core 'gender critical' team is

almost all (anti-trans) reporting cites/ quotes the same half-dozen people

pure elite capture - the uk just folded to a hardline anti-trans campaign pushed by a tiny number of people

"Denny O'Neil used to say that whether somebody had a healthy range of interests outside of comics was one of his biggest criteria when hiring new writers. he also complained that in his later freelance work editors' jobs seemed increasingly to consist of phone calls and paperwork and they no longer seemed particularly interested in actually discussing the specifics of the story he was writing for them."

wonder how much this has to do with "editor", for whatever reason, no longer being treated as a job that writers, and occasionally artists, get promoted into the way they often used to

BBC persists in referring to trans and non-binary individuals as "biological X who identify as X". It's a line routinely used by gender critical groups to dismiss trans and non-binary individuals' identities.
That framing has been shown to cause distress. It definitely isn't "unbiased reporting".
