Blacksky-only posts on blacksky.community will be Black only.
you can think of Blacksky Algorithms the company as Reddit for AT Protocol. We will make other “subreddits”
Community been here for 2 years and company for 1 year. Im the founder of both.
As a former Washington Post reporter I’m ashamed of this news. There is nothing false or inflammatory in anything Karen Attiah wrote.
Canceling my subscription. I’m appalled by our democratic organizations’ inability to protect free speech for all in the face of rising fascism.
lol!

A friend snapped this pic and sent it to me yesterday. It's from yesterday's large march in Chicago. Thank to the protester for bringing me along :)

It now has a gorgeous cover and a pre-order page (hint). So proud to have had the opportunity to work with Aymar. #commsky

I ran an experiment, simultaneously posting articles on Bluesky and X, and then testing to see how many people actually clicked and read them. The numbers on Bluesky are higher, both because the X algorithm downranks journalism, and because Bluesky attracts readers, not just shitposters.

Reparative Media argues we can reimagine how we make media, how we connect through technology, and how we generate knowledge to heal our culture.
Cruel Capitalism: a forum on media and fascism by AJ Bauer and Paula Chakravartty in Communication, Culture and Critique: This article introduces a forum on "media and fascism" by reading tech oligarch and right-wing political operative Elon Musk as a nexus of international fascist tendencies. It notes contradictions in the affective promises of capitalism vis a vis the elimination of racialized and gendered state regulatory and social welfare functions and describes the role of violent repression in sustaining right-authoritarian political formations in the US and around the globe.
Check out my latest, with @paulachak.bsky.social, in @ccc-journal.bsky.social!
It introduces a forum we co-edited on "Media and Fascism," with a star-studded lineup! See the 🧵 below:

This was so fun to write! Using Du Bois and reconstruction to talk about how media could help us survive authoritarianism.

So I’m going to social media to ask my professor friends: is this true? Are y’all removing books by Black authors critiquing structural harm from your syllabi for fear of retribution?
19.05.2025 20:01 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0The final nail in the coffin was when they said we would have to pay thousands of dollars to the press because no one would buy the book due to the anti-DEI backlash in the States.
Imagine: asking Black scholars to pay a white press money to publish a book about reparations!
Helping people understand how these corporations have historically perpetuated a toxic cultural climate is ESSENTIAL to understanding the moment. Now that systems are falling apart is the perfect time to think about repair.
19.05.2025 20:01 — 👍 4 🔁 1 💬 1 📌 0This is wild to say at a time when most of the world’s most divisive leaders — in the U.S., China, Russia, India and more — have built their followings through media. The current US President would not be without NBC/Fox News, Facebook/Twitter/Truth, the manosphere, and now his own cryptocurrency.
19.05.2025 20:00 — 👍 3 🔁 1 💬 1 📌 0One of the board’s critiques was the fact that we focused on offering a framework for harm in media and tech, instead of outlining what reparations will look like. At the same time, they say that in the current political climate, reparations seem impossible, so the book is irrelevant.
19.05.2025 20:00 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Our book is Media Reparations. We spend most of the book making the case that media has a 100+ year history of perpetuating harm to Black, indigenous and many other communities while also offering a brief framework and examples of what repair could look like.
19.05.2025 19:59 — 👍 4 🔁 1 💬 1 📌 0Today a (short) book I’m writing with Khadijah White about how media has perpetuated harm in society was effectively denied a contract from a publisher because of fear of the US anti-DEI climate, despite an editor who’s been consistently passionate about the project.

The only stablecoin should have been issued by the Fed, and 47 should have never been able to issue a grift coin or stablecoin, but Dems completely missed the chance to regulate crypto under Biden…out of sheer ignorance and seeming allegiance to the banks.
