Oof. That film starts so great and ends so disgustingly, aggressively transphobic. I remember watching it and going "Why don't people talk about this???" only to be like, "oh, that's why" an hour later. An utterly frustrating mess.

There are a few minor nit-picks, (While independently discovered, Alfred Clark did beat Georges Méliès to substitution editing tricks with "The Execution of Mary Stewart" in 1895) but nothing terrible. I even learned a few things I didn't know in areas I've actually put a lot of time into studying!

Carrier turns five today. Made over a few weeks during COVID lockdown, mostly from field recordings of my few trips out of the apartment, I tried to create a little horror story of my fears. It kept me sane. corycapron.bandcamp.com/album/carrier

In fact, as we continue to proceed through the 5-year anniversary of several albums from the most creatively productive year of my life, the ongoing trend is going to be that, yeah, I did all that with a shitty cellphone mic and app.

All those samples of amp feedback, shifting 30 ft shelving units in a distribution center, freezer motors. label printers, machinery sirens in [ish], those were just me shoving an old cellphone into shit.

Context: all field recordings sampled in prior albums have been recorded through either internal computer mics, a very generic office provided headset mic, a Yeti mic, or, quite frequently, a cheap cellphone's mic.

I make predominantly LO-lo-fi art. So this is a hell of a sexy upgrade.

Studying horror as a genre, one of the major exercises is to identify the different forms being utilized -- is a scene terrifying, thrilling, cringing, unnerving, repulsive, etc.. I'm not sure if we have a word for the kind of horror which fills one with questions that they do not want answered.
