Caps ownership wanted to build the stadium with their own land and money. It was basically Port of Vancouver which is run by federal government, that basically shut that down.

Again this is on ownership. Axel is a football guy, not a business guy. All the Whitecaps owners got here by being smart business men. It's up to them to reach out to business community.

This team has been so badly mismanaged until Axel arrived. They have basically been living off expansion fees. Now that the funnel of money has dried up, we hear of this doom and gloom.

What it sounds like is they need their own stadium to maximize their returns. If they are no longer talking about the Hastings plan, this team is done after this year. I know Garber liked to blame BC place for the Caps troubles, but there only so much they can give. This falls squarely on ownership.

That optimism didn't last long. Ownership needs to take the ball here. Having Axel be the lead here does not look good. This is too serious of an issue. I guess we are going to get a lot of back and forth in the next few months. The matches will almost become secondary.

The key to all of this might be what the government mentioned in naming rights. Both parties need to be creative. Don't think government is going to lose money to keep team here. Best option is to create new revenue.

Listened to latest podcast. Some interesting points about stadium situation. I don't understand why the BC government doesn't consider selling the naming rights. The could take in millions, therefore offering a better deal for Whitecaps. There's no incentives for government run agencies like Pavco.

I'm all for Caps getting a better deal. They knew BC place wouldn't be available because of World Cup. Seattle won't have their stadium either. Along with other cities like Atlanta. If they have to play league cup matches in Portland, so be it. They seem to be clouding all the issues.

Sell the naming rights. It would benefit both sides. Doesn't cost tax payers anything. These are supposed to be smart people, why can't they find a solution.

The availability of the stadium this year is due to the World Cup. It should not be an issue down the road. What I don't get is if they are planning to build their own stadium, why not just get the best deal possible then move on when your stadium is done?

No one is going to buy the team with the current deal at BC place. That is why they are planning to build their own stadium.

Championship cup matches not being able to play at BC place is because of World Cup. The other issues are more concerning. I think 2026 could be the last year at BC place. Firstly, they need to get the new stadium approved ASAP. Then they will probably need to find a temporary new home.

Just wondering why he didn't have this done, right after season ended? Team saying should be back in April. He will miss one month minimum.
