Finally, the role of the social media platform business models in causing civil unrest is called out. This should be tackled under the Online Safety Act.

Advertising is currently not supporting safe climate content, but all over climate denial and disinfo. This is a call to action for the industry and policy makers to tackle these unhealthy incentives.

The multirão asks for a number of things but specifically for advertisers:

Promoting transparency of placement and data as well as disclosure in the advertising supply chain to help address financial incentives for climate disinformation and greenwashing, and foster climate information integrity;

The Global Initiative for Information Integrity on Climate Change has launched a crucial Call to Action (Mutirão). Inviting governments, civil society, academia, and the private sector to submit concrete initiatives that promote information integrity in addressing climate change disinformation.
