The letter writers are being convinced by LLMs that they have made monumental discoveries that they don't remotely begin to understand, not even to the point of being able to explain for themselves what they think they have found.

It will be interesting to see if any platforms that have self-assessed as falling within the definition of age-restricted social media platform but not publicly assessed by eSafety will comply with the minimum age obligation.

The public understanding of the law may have been higher if the Government had not failed to hold the public consultation on the rules setting out exclusions on the ban.

But instead the Government has focussed on broad messaging ...

This (deliberate) lack of clarity in definition & therefore the law means many are surprised that Roblox, for example, has not been assessed by eSafety as falling within the definition & therefore "the ban".

The PM & Minister should have anticipated much earlier that the public would want greater certainty than that provided by the very broad definition of age-restricted social media platform.

I agree it is confusing for the public.

The PM & the Comms Minister have not clearly explained how the law works.

Instead they have focussed on generalities about "social media".

We should be careful about suggesting that the minimum age obligation only applies to those platforms publicly assessed by eSafety.

That's not how the legislation is written - the obligation applies to any platform that falls within the definition.

For example, in my view, Bluesky falls within the definition of an age-restricted social platform.

That eSafety has not publicly assessed it as falling within the definition does not mean it is out of scope.

I agree it is odd that the announcement of the assessment of Twitch falling within the definition of age-restricted social media platform was not made as the same time as Kick.

Also note any platform that assesses it falls within the definition must comply not just those named by eSafety.
