Apart from Plotnikova’s recordings of the Kamas speech, there is only a limited number of other
audio sources. The earliest recording of spoken Kamas is a copy of Kai Donner's wax cylinder from 1914

Since the death of her aunt Matryona, Klavdiya Plotnikova had no one to talk to in her mother’s
tongue for 20 years. She only could speak Kamas to God and to her cow.

Sub-project Kamas

This month we start with Kamas, an extinct Samoyedic language, the last speaker of which - Klavdiya
Plotnikova - died in 1989. We published a corpus with Kamas data a while back -

The last minutes

Final discussion in the "Building diachronic corpora for minority languages" workshop touched legal issues, version control, applications of AI among other topics. We had a productive and encouraging workshop #cifu14 #langsky

A fantastic #cifu14 reception at the Estonian National Museum with greetings and songs by representatives of many Finno-Ugric peoples!

Opening the symposium on Building diachronic corpora for minority languages at Congressus XIV Internationalis Fenno-Ugristarum. The symposium is organized by Jeremy Bradley, Daria Zhornik, Ksenia Shagal (Munich), Timofey Arkhangelskiy, Alexandre Arkhipov (Hamburg), and Trond Trosterud (Tromsø).

In April we presented one more new addition to the project – the Ket language, the last surviving member of the Yeniseian family with very unique characteristics. It is the first time INEL will be working with a Yeniseian language - bsky.app/profile/proj...

This year we have started developing two new corpora introducing new languages to the INEL project. Therefore, in March we talked you through the basics of the Ulcha language – the second Tungusic language in the project after the Evenki - bsky.app/profile/proj...

In February we continued presenting texts from the upcoming corpora – that time it was Nganasan’s turn! We told you a few stories about Nganasan shamanism and how it is represented in lokal folklore - bsky.app/profile/proj...

Of course, not only did we share the texts from the newly published corpora, but also all the information about where to get them - bsky.app/profile/proj...

Right before New Year we released one more corpus – the INEL Evenki Corpus, so in January we shared a story from that corpus. Specifically, it was a story from Konstantin Rychkov’s archive about an orphan girl and her very special dress. – bsky.app/profile/proj...

Mid December we published the INEL Nenets Corpus, so we started that month by sharing a Forest Nenets folklore story – bsky.app/profile/proj...

The cold months were all about showcasing stories from our corpora.
In November – right in time for the INEL Enets Corpus release – we told you an Enets story of Dyoa who deceived an old couple. bsky.app/profile/proj...

In October we rolled back with even more Tavda Mansi riddles, showcasing examples of Yannychkovo and Kuzyaeva subdialects – bsky.app/profile/proj.... And, by the way, the release of the Tavda Mansi corpus is almost around the corner! Watch out for updates!
