WHAT TO DO IF ICE COMES TO YOUR DOOR DO NOT OPEN DOORS --Ice cannot come in without a signed warrant. Tell them to pass the warrant under the door before you open. REMAIN SILENT --ICE can use anything you say against you in your immigration case, so claim your right to remain silent. DO NOT SIGN --DO not sign anything ICE gives you without talking to an attorney! REPORT THE RAID --Call Rapid Response Hotline 1-844-724-3737 --Take pictures, videos, and notes FIGHT BACK --Get a trustworthy attorney and explore all options to fight for your case. Protect your family and neighbors!
This is getting wide amplification (rightly so), but needed #AltText
Also, please note that ICE warrants are NOT SIGNED BY A JUDGE, and give ICE agents NO AUTHORITY to enter your home or business without your consent!
Book #3 for 2025 is โFinal Girlsโ by Riley Sager. I only enjoyed this book *just* enough to finish it. For my QBR (quick book review) check out the video.

The 10th anniversary edition of Heff VanderMeerโs bestselling novel โAnnihilationโ stands on a bookshelf in front of a collection of graphic novels and other books. Beside it, sits a small, green clawfoot bathtub holding a felted alligator in bath water (also felted) holding a tiny rubber ducky.
An image from the Notes app, which reads as follows: โAnnihilation 2025, Book #2 Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer Thereโs something magical about reading a novel that shouldnโt work but still pulls it off flawlessly. In Annihilation, our narrator is an observer. She is someone who thrives on being on the outside looking in. And so we have a story where much (but certainly not all) of the conflict is viewed from a detached perspective. We see the aftermath of things and hear the biologistโs theories about the events that likely surrounded what sheโs observing and recording. Whatโs so genius about this deliberate setup is that it actually creates more tension and makes Area X more unsettling.โ
A screencap from the Notes app, which reads as follows: I first read this novel back when I didnโt read very much. I picked it up because I loved Alex Garlandโs (loose) movie adaptation. I still love the movie, but as the clichรฉ goes: the book is better. I read Annihilation again in part because I received the BEAUTIFUL 10th anniversary edition of all four books in the Southern Reach series. And I have to say I love it even more now in my โprolific-reading era.โ Thereโs something so fluid and smooth about the prose here. Few books have such a flow that it is easier to read them than to set the book down. (I think some of you will know what I mean.) Stephen Kingโs โCarrieโ and Andrรฉ Acimanโs โCall Me By Your Nameโ fall into that category for me, despite the massive differences in genre.
A screencap from the Notes app. Five star emojis are followed by the text, โ5/5 Highly recommended.โ
My second book of 2025 is Jeff VanderMeerโs โAnnihilation.โ It was a pleasure to revisit this favorite in its gorgeous 10th anniversary edition. I received the set of all four Southern Reach books for Christmas and look forward to continuing this bizarre (in the best way) journey! #booksky

A metal box would creep me out far more because it holds up better/longer. With cardboard, its appearance would give you SOME indicator of where itโs been and how long-ish. But metal? It could be decades or a century old. That rust could be from rain or from sitting at the bottom of a lake.
