That's exactly what I was talking about with my other comment! People do not understand what their taxpayer dollars do for their community. Let me add a fun fact for folks: one of the first things that colonists did when setting up a town was set the tax rate to pay for roads, meeting house, etc.

How much of this is because people do not understand what their tax dollars actually do for their community? I mention progressive vs. regressive taxes and eyes glaze over. I grew up with Town Meeting every year and a town report that listed what had been done and proposed budget. People understood.
