The point is, the Democrats had good reason to say, we can't let Republicans play by one set of rules while we play by another. We can't allow them to take down our politicians for misdemeanors and protect their own from felonies. And it's hard to say they were wrong!

And, on top of that, the right had shown that it was more than willing to excuse major crimes by Republicans (Watergate and Iran Contra) while pursuing misdemeanors by Democrats (Whitewater). Of course, that open-ended Whitewater investigation led to the Lewinsky affair coming to light.

The Vince Foster murder conspiracies were promoted at the highest level of the Republican House leadership, spread by a very eager right-wing media network, and supported financially by some very rich right-wing donors.

You're right, but it wasn't just for the sake of political convenience or because the economy was good. The right had already demonstrated the conspiratorial thinking, media bias, witch hunts, and weaponized investigations that are the hallmarks of the Trump era.

By that logic, Sarah was responding to someone describing reality from a political and theological perspective by saying that her sociological claim trumps his political and theological claim. There was no need to jump down Kurt's throat.

There is great value in Christians calling out Christian nationalism as a heresy, and the fact that sociology doesn't judge what is heretical isn't cause for condemning that line of attack.

I completely agree. I also think @trypax.charityweb.net replies elsewhere in this thread are analogous. Much as Obama was addressing the language from a political rather than sociological frame, Kurt is addressing it from a religious rather than sociological frame.
